WebVinyl.Com Presents!
Frank Zappa / The Mothers Of Invention
"Leatherette" Lunar Toones Records Private Live and Outtakes Underground Double LP! No Reserve!
Frank Zappa / The Mothers Of Invention - "Leatherette" Lunar Toones Records (Aus) LOONY 2S-5. Super Hard to find Collector's Private press Live and Outtakes Album from Frank Zappa and The Mothers featuring Adrian Belew, Patrick O'Hearn, Tommy Mars, Peter Wolf, Ed Mann, Terry Bozzio , Ray White, Eddie Jobson, Ruth Underwood, Don Pardo, David Samuels, Randy Brecker, Mike Brecker, Lou Marini, Ronnie Cuber, Warren Cuccurullo, L. Shankar, Simon Phillips and more! These are Live cuts and Outtakes from the legendary "Lather" album. Contains such gems as the Original "Dead Girls Of London" with Van Morrison and the Unedited "Titties And Beer" plus two Interviews with Zappa!
For those who may not know the whole story behind the album, let me fill you in. Zappa originally conceived Lather as a 4-record box set. FZ's record company at the time (Discreet - a now defunct subsidiary of Warner Brothers), didn't want to release it. Zappa then tried to release it with another record company (Polygram) as a 'special project'. Polygram briefly agreed to release the box set, then reneged on the deal, due to legal complications with Discreet.
Discreet told Zappa that he owed them four more records under his present contract. In an attempt to fulfill his contractual obligation, Zappa reformatted Lather and delivered the remaining four albums all at once. They wouldn't pay him, nor would they release him from his contract. Never one to be pushed around by the record labels, Zappa took Lather to a local radio station in December of 1977 and asked them to play the entire thing. Frank assumed the role of "temporary bogus disc jockey" for this special broadcast. After asking listeners to get their tape decks set up, he delivered Lather to the radio audience for free.
In super condition! The Full Color Printed cover is still in it's Original Shrink Wrap and easily Near Mint! Please note - any marks, streaks or blotches that you may see which are not mentioned in the write up (like those in the upper right corner of the cover) are scanner artifacts, not defects in the record cover... I will list any actual defects! The Vinyl is also awsome! There may be a slight sleeve scuff or two if you really look closely but in pretty much New condition (quite possibly unplayed...no spidle marks) and easily Near Mint! The Yellow labels are also Near Mint!

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
One other caveat... As most of you looking at this will know, some of these old Private, Fan, Underground LPs don't have the greatest recording fidelity or pressing quality. Of course, some are really nice. In any case, I assume that if you bid that you understand this. I am not responsible for any potential disappointments in sound quality. Even more than usual, these are graded strictly on a visual basis.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over eleven years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less! If you are not satisfied that a purchase meets my description, I will do what I can to make it right if you give me the chance and work with me! Please feel free to check my feedback.
