Description
Ffa Coffi Pawb's 12" single Allan O'i Phen, released in 1990 on Dragon Rwj (Reu!121). Amazing gatefold sleeve design, with pop up, featuring Welsh classified adverts that paid for the production of the record. Sleeve is VG+ considering its low quality card and paper construction, with mild wear but no major defects, small separation of spine as shown in picture five. The original price lable from Cob Records, one of the sponsors, is still attached. Inner sleeve shown in pictures six and seven carries further sponsorship adverts and unsold spaces carry the text, 'Cynhyrchwyd y record gan Dragon Rwj Myfyrwyr blywyddyn cyntaf cwrs BTEC hamdden adran fusnes Coleg Meirionnydd', 'The record was produced by Dragon Rwj, first year leisure BTEC students, business department, Meirionydd Colege'. Diolch enterprising students! No idea how many were produced, but from the origins of the record I would imagine not very many.
Vinyl is near mint.
Ffa Coffi Pawb (Welsh for 'Everybody's Coffee Beans', but sounding rude enough when spoken to get them banned from the BBC) later signed to Welsh music label, Ankst, active from 1986 to 1992. The band was made up of singer and guitarist Gruff Rhys (later of Super Furry Animals), drummer Dafydd Ieuan (also later of Super Furry Animals), Rhodri Puw (later of Gorky's Zygotic Mynci) and Dewi Emlyn (later tour manager for Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Super Furry Animals). One of the band's tracks, "Dacw Hi", was eventually covered by the Furries on their Welsh language album Mwng.
Not until trying to remove the vinyl for photographing, with some difficulty, did i find two photographs inside, both of which have previously been taped up on a wall (residue on back of photo nine shown in picture ten, the other is less marked.) One photo is a promo picture of Gryffydd (Gruff) Rhys and Dafydd Ieuan, the other an original print of Gruff by, and signed by, amazing long term documenter of the Welsh music and arts, Pete Telfer. I'm not sure whether these were originally part of the package or later additions, as despite buying my copy of the record from Cob it was obviously second hand, though little, if at all, played.
