Description

Free Tons Of Sobs
Vinyl LP. Island Records. ILPS-9089. 1969.
The good news and the bad news....... First the good. Despite the record having a lot of visual scratches it actually plays really well except for track 1, side two which clicks a bit. I have played it through twice in recent days and it has been a pleasure to listen to. Very little surface noise and only the odd crackle. No sticking or jumps. There is a very slight warp but this does not affect playback at all.
Early pressing with the Island 'eye/circle' logo in orange and black on a pink label. The matrix numbers end in A2 and B2.
That, believe it or not, is the good news!
Now the bad news - the sleeve. Judging by the condition (see photo) it has probably been used for decades as a class 'A' prepping surface, coffee table and beer mat! It is seriously tatty. I have tried to clean it but without much success. It would probably be best to look out for a better sleeve. It is the unlaminated gatefold and the inside is much better than the outside. The spine and the edges are very worn. The original blue paper Island inner sleeve has been repaired by a spaced-out hippy with sellotape.
All in all this is far from the best copy of a much sought after rarity. Having said that the record plays very well and you'd do well to find an early pressing in any condition.
