CONDITION
Vinyl: EX
The vinyl retains its original deep shiny gloss and full lustre with only a couple of very faint wispy hairlines visible under a critical bright light - plays great throughout with only some minor playback surface static in a few places. There are no jumps and no sticks on any of the tracks on either side. This highly collectable record has had very little use during the 39 years I have owned it!
Labels: EX+
Both very clean and highly attractive with only very light faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area.
Inner Sleeve: VG+
Original 1st press blue and white stereo issue polylined inner has a few creases and a couple of small tears
Sleeve: VG+ near EX
The striking front laminated sleeve has some scuffs, creases, and wear on the lower right corner near the open out edge (please see picture no.7). As you can see in the pictures some of the green laminate has rubbed off on the lower open out edge. Besides this the sleeve is near excellent with just a few lamination creases near the spine and top left corner. The spine is straight and the text is fully 100% readable. On the rear of the sleeve there are some scuffs and creases on the bottom right corner near the open out edge, the rest of the sleeve is excellent with only light and minimal discolouration. The sleeve features the original 10mm round hole in the top right hand corner where you can see a blue biro line through the red-mono text (see picture no.8). This was there when I originally bought the LP!! Due to the wear on the lower right corner I have conservatively graded the sleeve at VG+ verging on near EX. Sleeve is printed by Senol Ltd. and was laminated with Clarifoil by British Celanese Limited.
NOTES
GALLIARD "Strange Pleasure" LP UK Psych Prog DERAM NOVA SDN 4
Deram Nova SDN 4 Stereo. Matrix nos. ZAL 9183-84P. Decca UK factory pressing. Original 1970 album with original front laminated sleeve and polylined blue inner sleeve.
This is the first of only two albums released by the legendary late 60's UK prog / psych band Galliard, highly eclectic heavy progressive rock with great songs, superb acid guitar and brass-enhanced sections. Wonderful music and a definite classic from the glory days of the British progressive era !! Extremely rare Deram Nova label UK original first pressing from 1970.
Guranteed original UK 1st pressing as can be seen by the mfg hole punch telling the buyer which copy to purchase mono or stereo, this one is blue for stereo. Classic early prog rock LP with fabulous well constructed cosmic inspired prog psych rock tunes that work well with all the hot lead guitar runs and spacey tripped out effects! Highly collectable record, confirmed in the ‘Tapestry of Delights’ book which rates it R3 ‘Extremely Rare’. Seldom seen or offered, this highly obscure Deram Nova gem is a prog rock delight throughout. A very rare album indeed !! Galliard blend genuine prog-psych-folk-jazz rock with mediaeval touches and it works perfectly. Some highly complex musicianship including some of the most frenetic brass arrangements ever to be included on a prog rock album. On the opening song ‘Skillet’ there is a murderous horn riff that literally could rip the cloth from your speakers – its manic and quite brilliant. The album features several brass-driven songs but don’t be put off, this is highly infectious and for those with a taste for horns will love it especially. At times the complex progressive rock music is incredibly challenging. The front laminated cover features sublime ghoulish artwork, and the set is complete with the Decca-style stereo blue inner sleeve that fills the peep-hole mono/stereo indicator back. The Nova series specialised in less commercial, more progressive orientated acts and few of them sold well. They are very collectable and finding a complete run is a seriously difficult task these days. Overall this is a very nice example and most collectors will enjoy it, the vinyl is excellent, but if the scuffing near the open out edge in the lower right is an issue - please do not bid. See the pictures of the actual item up for auction. What you see here is exactly the copy you will receive.
This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION for one of the rarest albums you will ever see on the collectable DERAM NOVA record label. A great addition to your prog/psych collection!
