Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to buy an early original pressing of the ultra-scarce first Genesis album on Decca! It comes complete with the original lyric insert and has been preserved to the highest standard! This is an album re-issued to death over the last 35 years but still these scarce Decca originals issued in 1969 and 1970 are the must have editions for the serious Genesis collectors! Near enough impossible to find in a complete package such as this, this definitely is not an opportunity to be missed!!!

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Recorded in 1968 whilst still at school, this is the pre-Phil Collins Genesis with Peter Gabriel on lead vocals plus the ever present core of Banks and Rutherford. Also playing were the soon to depart Anthony Philips and John Silver. Despite the grand concepts in the lyrics, this is not a prog-rock album by a long shot. Instead it’s a criminally overlooked pop album that blends influences from The Beatles, folk and classical music in a truly satisfying way. The band themselves were unhappy about the addition of strings and the overall production is very minimal, in fact it has a kind of school assembly hall echo. All of which adds to the understated charm of this lovely album, firm proof that they were just as capable of crafting beautiful pop songs with Gabriel at the helm as they later were with Collins.

RECORD CONDITION:

It such a rare treat to find an early pressing of this album in such amazingly pristine shape; in fact the appearance of this disc is that of a new piece of vinyl, it is so clean looking, bright and glossy that it really does look never played. A close inspection of the spindle wear shows that this very nearly is the case, the album has probably been played five or six times maximum. A closer inspection of the vinyl too only shows that this really is a very clean record, with only a couple of small light paper scuffs and brushes. There are no bad marks or scratches, the sound in the run-in grooves is near silent; the most I have to report is the very occasional moment of light crackle at worst. This great album is well worth a strong grade of NEAR MINT

COVER CONDITION:

What a great unearthing this one really is, not only has the front laminate sleeve retained a nice glossy sheen but it still has the original inner sleeve and the original oh so scarce lyric insert! The inner and the lyric insert are both totally undamaged and can grade as EXCELLENT. The actual sleeve is pressed on very flimsy paper so, inevitably, it displays a little more wear although it too displays no serious damage and can grade as a strong VERY GOOD! The sleeve is totally intact, the worst I have to report is some light scuffing effects on the non-laminate rear sleeve (see photos) and some general ring-wear; again more prominent on the non-laminate side. The edges are all smooth and un-damaged, there’s only a very few small light creases. The spine area displays a little laminate lifting but again no serious damage apart from a few light creases. Basically, this is a scarce and complete original package in a wonderfully well preserved state.

VINYLSOUND

I have been trading and collecting records for over 20 years now. Our auctions on Ebay are always play-graded (when buying vinyl on the internet you really should settle for nothing less!) and our descriptions endeavour to inform potential buyers of every possible detail. Our photos are taken with care and aim to show you everything that there is to see, there is nothing to hide with our auctions so please e-mail us and ask us questions if you need any additional information. We will endeavour to tell you everything you need to know.

Many of our auctions have a Price Guide value of more than twenty pounds (often a lot more) and our starting prices are low, so there is always a chance of picking up a bargain! We enjoy trading in rare and collectable vinyl and we love it when those rarities find a good home. Our gradings are based on Record Collector magazines Rare Record Price Guide system (Mint/Excellent/Very Good/Good/Fair) and we always steer on the side of caution with these (for example if we have any element of doubt about grading a record EX we will always go VG to ensure the eventual buyer has a pleasant surprise!)

We offer money back to buyers with legitimate complaints; for example if the item has been damaged in transit; however if the buyer has simply decided they do not like the music, or they recklessly contest the grading with no firm evidence then we do expect them to keep the record! Since starting on Ebay we have recieved 1000+ positive feedback comments on VINYL SALES ALONE and those buyers know that WE TAKE GREAT CARE TO GET OUR GRADINGS EXACTLY RIGHT SO BID WITH TOTAL CONFIDENCE!!! Happy bidding and good luck!
