These Japanese hi-grade , virgin-vinyl, extended-dynamic range vinyl pressings - while they were imported  in the 1970's and early 1980's - were audiophile and connoisseur delights  (we   have not  seen some of these titles in circulation in years – some of them are highly collectible). These majestic recordings received an  intense, meticulous and laborious treatment like very few other recordings did.   They are characterized by the boosted dynamic and frequency range, almost compulsive attention paid to the fine detail and integrity of the pressing and highest quality  of the material. Many of  these recordings remain unsurpassed, delivering music  reproduction as close to  the actual recording session as possible. In the best tradition of some of the major Japanese corporations -  such as RCA Victor Co. (Nippon),  Warner-Pioneer Corporation of Japan or EMI-Toshiba Corporation  -  the sound quality of the Japanese pressings is, generally,  truly extraordinary - much better, we firmly believe, than the corresponding first pressings of the albums in question.

Genesis' first truly progressive album, and their first record for the Charisma label , is important mostly as a formative effort. Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, and Michael Rutherford are here, but the guitarist is Anthony Phillips and the drummer is John Mayhew. Gabriel, Banks, Phillips, and Rutherford are responsible for the compositions, which are far more ambitious than the group's earlier efforts ("Silent Sun," etc.). Unfortunately, much of what is here is more interesting for what it points toward than what it actually does — the group reflects a peculiarly dramatic brand of progressive rock, very theatrical as music, but not very successful. The lyrics are complex enough but lack the unity and clarity that would make Genesis' subsequent albums among the most interesting of prog rock efforts to analyze. Gabriel's voice is very expressive but generally lacks power and confidence, while the conventional backup vocalizing by the others is wimpy, and Phillips' playing is muted. Tony Banks' keyboards are the dominant instruments, which isn't that bad, but it isn't the Genesis that everyone came to know. The soft, lyrical "Visions of Angels" and "Stagnation" are typical, gentle works by a band that later learned how to rock much harder. Only one of the songs here, "The Knife" — which rocks harder than anything else on Trespass and is easily the best track on the album — lasted in the group's concert repertory past the next album.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The album comes with the original Japanese-only insert/lyrics sheet still intact.

(c)           The record is STILL in its original inner, hi-grade PVC inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(d)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

-        Cover has a small, rectangular, sticker residue (small yellowish discoloration from the removed price sticker)
