GENESIS ~ The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Charisma CGS 101 Released November 1974
 
This auction is for a superb and complete copy of this highly prized 1st pressing. The vinyl, sleeve, lyric Inners and the elusive Charisma Gold Chase insert are all in super condition with only minimal wear.  A simply wonderful set!
 
Detailed condition grading is as follows: 
 
VINYL: (Side 1 / 2 / 3 / 4)    EX / EX / EX+ / EX+
 
Record one is graded at EX and display a light to moderate amount of wear, all of which is light when viewed under strong halogen light.  Record two has only very superficial light wear and is graded at EX+.  Each side of both records has the very first matrix numbers for this LP (excluding the somewhat mythical and never seen -1U endings – reportedly copies were destroyed) which end in -2U so a completely original copy.  The labels also bear the correct “Marketed By” B&C Records” credit, that were shortly superseded by “Manufactured and Distributed By B&C Records” and then in 1975 by the Phonogram credit.  Accept no less.  This in an original and correct 1st Pressing copy.

LABELS:  NEAR MINT
The labels are in Near Mint condition, being clean and free from any marks or noticeable damage.
 
OUTER SLEEVE: EX+
The delicate and predominantly white outer gatefold sleeve is graded as being in EX+ condition.  It is the soft card semi gloss finish that only accompanies true first pressings is manufactured by Bruin BV.
This is one of the cleanest and whitest sleeves of this LP that I have seen in a long time, it has just the most minor of imperfections, and occasional very mild discoloration nothing that is really notable in terms of defects.  The spine is strong and intact with strong clear text visible.  It has no writing, rips, tears or other significant marks.  Superb.
   
LYRIC INNER SLEEVES : EX / EX
 
Both the lyric inner sleeves are graded at EX condition.   They are the thick card variety only found on true first pressings (later pressings were on much thinner card).  The opening edge of the inners also protrudes by about 1cm which is another unique characteristic of the very first pressing run of this LP.
They are both in nice condition throughout,  generally clean with just the odd minor blemish.
 
COMPETITION INSERT: EX
 
The ultra rare Charisma GOLD CHASE insert is in EX condition being generally clean and without any significant creasing. There is just a small area which has slight brown staining and a small crease in the top right corner.   The competition close date is 1 January 1975 and is only found very occasionally with the first pressings that were sold in November 1974.  Very deep bright colours on the insert which also bears the catalogue number of this LP ~ CGS 101 indicating that is was printed especially for inclusion with “The Lamb”
 
Overall this is a super copy of this Prog Masterpiece and a completely original 1st Pressing!!
 
Postage and Packing:
 
All records are been placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping.  Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s. These mailers are a high grade type which re-inforce the edges around the LP and as such they are larger and weigh more than standard mailers.  My postage costs reflect the additional size and weight of the packaging that I use. Despite using high quality packing materials, I only charge the actual costs of postage.
