GRITTY SOUL ROCK opus - their debut album - from this hugely popular American band. The music is pitched in the direction of funky white- man rock with roots in the sixties soul shuffle that spawned other Michigan reprobates such as Ted Nugent and Bob Seger. You know the score; heavy on the groove, loads of Hammond and pummelling drums. Proto metal sums it all up quite nicely. Check out the tracks 'Got This Thing On The Move', 'High Falootin' Woman', 'Inside Looking Out' and the brilliant 'Paranoid' for further proof.

Man of the match? Clearly that honour must go to vocalist and guitarist Mark Farner. What an amazing voice.

Pressing: Capitol, UK, 1970 - Green label

Vinyl: Clean condition with light spindle marks and micro scuffs - mainly from sliding in and out of the inner sleeve. One feelible needle scratch on 1st track side one that does sound. Playback is in the main nice - full punchy warm analogue sound - but does suffer from some sporadic snap, crackle and pop. The music is loud so not too invasive. Grades as Vg+

Cover: Almost no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated fully laminated cover - retains full gloss. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no split seams and no creases. Spine is perfectly square, stiff, straight and uncrushed. Beautiful and impossible to find like this after 46 years. Only defect is a miscule 2mm tear on leading edge. Grades as Ex+
