This is where it all started y' know, Uncle Larry's right, the Church had it first. This LP contains 16 tracks of the music which provided the roots source of rock'n'roll, blues, soul, and so much timeless music. This compilation presents some of the most electrifying startling early black music on record, quartets, soloists, singing groups all of whom create amazing rhythm, and pulsating beat with little more than the accapella voice. I played some of this to a fourteen - year old, and she was totally "Knocked out" by the raw power of these supreme song­sters. You haven't lived 'until you've heard Prophet Powers, or thrilled to Rev. Anderson Johnson's little outing "God Don't Like It". The Southern Harmonaires are overwhelm­ing and who can resist the Echoes of Zion, Radio Four, or Five Blind Boys. 10 Different acts in all each with a very distinctive style, and all with super sound quality. Maybe you've been hooked by the recent upsurge of interest in Blind Willie Johnson or Rev. Gary Davis, or just long for a change from pop stuff. Heck, you might find this high protein meat at first, but this amazing music must be heard to be believed. The best compilation of its kind I've heard, and I've heard a few.

This album contains a representative collection of post-war gospel recorded between 1947 and 1953.

A Note About Shipping To The U.S.
We are located in Canada, but have registered ourselves on eBay.com instead of eBay.ca because it gives us significantly better global exposure.  The problem with this is that eBay wants us to charge shipping appropriate to US, where media mail and other options make for fairly reasonable delivery costs. We tried it for a while but ended up losing money on shipping or having to cancel the orders because we couldn't afford to ship for those rates. To manage this we have set the US shipping to run a calculator based on an American location (we chose Plattsburgh as fairly close) and charging according to UPS pricing.  This avoids the cancellation issue, but appears to the buyer to be a prohibitive shipping cost and misrepresents the shipping as being only expedited. If you give us your postal code we will see if we can offer a more reasonable option, but generally we can get a single LP by air to most places in the continental US for $11, a few bucks less for ground.
