HANK MOBLEY “Hank Mobley with Donald Byrd and Lee Morgan” Blue Note 1540, “P”, “RVG”, DG, Original Mono Vinyl.
This is the original 1957, DG, mono, Flat Rim, “RVG”, “P” pressing of HANK MOBLEY’s “Hank Mobley with Donald Byrd and Lee Morgan” on the 47 West 63rd NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 1540. Musicians include Hank Mobley, Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan, Horace Silver, Paul Chambers, Charlie Persip.
VINYL is in nice condition; plays with consistent low-level surface noise and occasional pops and ticks, some repeating. Many hairline marks but no feelable scratches. No warps. No distortion. No skips. The music is largely clear as a bell, rich, forceful and dynamic. Tone is full, warm, and powerful. The 47 West 63rd NYC labels (No “R” under “Note”) Deep Groove labels are in very good condition with some spindle wear evident under direct light. See photos.
Front LAMINATED COVER is in nice condition; no spine split. Laminate in excellent condition. See photos. One one-inch top seam split, taped; one half-inch lower seam split, taped. Corners worn. See photos. The “767 Lexington Ave., New York 21” back jacket shows minor wear, but otherwise clean. See photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers.
