THIRTY YEARS OF LYRICAL & DRAMATIC MUSIC
GATE 5 RECORDS (un-numbered mono LP, booklet dated 1962)
The eclectic, eccentric composer/instrument-maker/all-around artist HARRY PARTCH, a cult figure in 20th century American music, issued much of his work on DIY LPs. This special disc celebrated his 30th year as a composer and recorder of music, and as an inventor and builder of unique musical instruments.
This nice copy of his 1962 release is autographed by the composer, and dated 1968, on its back cover. (See close-up of autograph above.)
BOOKLET: 16-page glossy paper saddle-stitched booklet contains several large black and white photographs of Partch's many imaginative self-made instruments, with some images of Partch playing them as well. Descriptive text throughout.
Some foxing and age speckling to 50 year-old booklet. Slight but visible water damage to first page of booklet (which affects pp. 2-4 to a lesser degree). Corners sharp. Staples still shiny. Overall, booklet is VG+++.
JACKET: Ringwear and rubwear to both faces of jacket (expected for a half-century-old white-covered LP jacket). All seams intact, with minor scuffing in spots. Partch's autograph, in blue ball point pen ink, is, dated March, 1968. This sleeve is a solid VG+++.
VINYL: Very pretty, thick vinyl has only a few stray superficial scuffs and dings. If there are enough requests, I'll post some sound-samples from both sides. Disc could use a good, quick cleaning. This disc rates a strong EX.
