ORIGINAL UK UNITED ARTISTS (UAG 29364) FIRST PRESSING (November 1972) OF HAWKWIND'S SPACE/PROG MASTERPIECE "Doremi Fasol Latido"
PROBABLY MY FAVOURITE HAWKWIND ALBUM WITH THE ALMIGHTY "Brainstorm" AND IT'S PLAYS BEAUTIFULLY THROUGHOUT WITH PRACTICALLY NOTHING TO FAULT - AND IT'S COMPLETE WITH BOTH THE ORIGINAL ORANGE INNER AND THE SCARCE 'STAR RATS' POSTER - GREAT COPY WHICH EVEN THOUGH OBVIOUSLY VERY WELL PLAYED (there are numerous spindle marks on the labels and some superficial marking to the record surfaces) IT SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING
PRESSED ON QUALITY HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL WITH THE FIRST BEIGE UA LABELS
FIRST ISSUE MATRICES: UAG 29364 A-2U (etched 'PECKO') / UAG 29364 B-2U (etched 'PORKY') (the lowest matrix for this LP)
MOTHERS/STAMPERS: 1/HT (etched 'PECKO') and 1/54 (etched 'PORKY') - very strange to have the numbers 54 stamped instead of the stamper letters - no idea what that's all about)
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL SILVERED SLEEVE, DATE CODED "DA/DA/72"
COMPETE WITH THE ORIGINAL ORANGE CARTOON INNER SLEEVE (SIDE OPENING) WITH TWO FLIPBACKS AND CUT CORNERS
AND THE RARE FOUR PANEL 'STAR RATS' POSTER PRINTED ON ONE SIDE OF LIGHT PAPER WITH THE PRINTED SIDE HAVING A LIGHT GLOSS FINISH
THIS CARRIES THE 'DA/DA/72 UAG 29364' STATEMENT ONLY PRESENT ON UK ORIGINAL 1972 COPIES (later copies - sometimes substituted - do not have this statement)
Doremi may not be Hawkwind's most renowned album, but it carries the same type of prog rock spaciness as their first two releases.
Even though the keyboard playing is trimmed down just a tad, the introduction of Ian Kilmister, otherwise known as Lemmy of Motörhead fame, makes up for it.
With Lemmy's hard-lined guitar playing and Del Dettmar's synthesizer stabs, tracks like "Space Is Deep" and "The Watcher" are infused with elaborate instrumental meanderings in perfect Hawkwind fashion.
The longer tracks, both "Brainstorm" and "Time We Left This World Today," have Lemmy getting settled in the band's extraordinary milieu, but end up being the album's strongest cuts.
There's a harder feel to the songs all the way through, with the guitar and drums coming to the forefront ahead of Dik and Mik's "generators","hot electronics" and phasing turned up to 11
Doremi is the inaugural album for drummer Simon King, and with guitarist Dave Anderson and percussion man Terry Ollis now departed, Hawkwind still manages to muster up a firm intergalactic space-metal atmosphere...only with a more rugged thrust

LABELS: Clean and unmarked with no unwanted writing but they do display numerous spindle marks - EXCELLENT
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen with some superficial marks but these have no audio consequence - the record sounds sensational and plays pretty much perfectly throughout (see detailed audio assessment below) - visually EXCELLENT
VINYL Audio: Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a very loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, no loud clicks or pops and no surface noise - the quieter, spacey sections play just about as beautifully and as silently as vinyl possibly can - this is an impressively clean pressing and even though it's obviously been very well played I would say only on very high-end equipment. Critically graded EXCELLENT+ for audio (it's practically flawless) - this is a great sounding copy of this fabulous LP - very impressive indeed
SLEEVE: The single silvered sleeve has suffered some rubbing - as is very common - but it's good and solid with no structural damage and the silvered sections still have a nice mirror-like shine. The edges actually show very little wear and all text on the spine is clear and bold - VERY GOOD+++
INNER SLEEVE: The original orange cartoon inner is clean, bright and unmarked with no splits (which is pretty rare for this inner) - very fresh with just some light handling creases - EXCELLENT++
POSTER: The original four panel poster is clean, bright and unmarked with no rips, tears or damage - EXCELLENT++
