Initially a Brisbane group, Head formed in late 1969 with the initial line-up of Dave Tice (vocals), Pete Wells (bass), Neil Jensen (guitar) and Steve Jones (drums) and began to make a name for themselves after moving to Sydney scoring a residency at the Groovey Room. City life didn’t agree with Neil and Steve, both leaving the band only after a few months and were replaced by John Baxter, (guitar, ex-Mandala) and Peter Leighton (drums, ex-Aftermath).
The band’s reputation as a straight-up heavy rock outfit continued to grow which led to their first recording break, a deal with Phonogram Records. This single ‘Hobo’ was released shortly after but received little airplay and virtually sank without a trace. More line-up changes (along with the re-naming to Buffalo) resulted in the birth of Australia’s premier and now legendary heavy-progressive band.
The A-side here is an incredibly good blues-hard rock example laced with fuzz-psych guitar … brilliant stuff. The flip, as generally is the case, is not as strong but still not half-bad either.
CONDITION: Note : All records (except where Mint) have been vacuum-machine cleaned and fully played on a quality system to determine an accurate grading.
This item will be safely packed and includes a new outer plastic cover.
· Vinyl : Very Good. Some light marks on both sides of no audible concern. Visually it still retains heaps of gloss which is reflected in the bright and clear playback of both tracks. A great clean sound throughout which will not disappoint. Certainly only minimal turntable time and Rated VG+.
· Labels : Clean apart from a light pen mark on B-side as per photo above.
· Sleeve : Original company cover in excellent condition. No writing. No splits. No marks.
