Ralph Vaughan Williams (RVW) was in my opinion one of the very greatest composers. Never content with what he had just written, but nevertheless staunch in his principles, over his lifetime he created a series of amazingly vital and original compositions. Many of the recordings in the Previn/LSO RVW cycle are unmatched by any of the recorded competition. And not a single recording disappoints. The recorded sound is outstanding by any standards. BTW, I could not get interested in Vaughan Williams for years. But when I bought the Antarctica (Symphony No. 7) and gave it a try, I got hooked from there, and bought all of the rest one at a time. I couldn't believe how vibrant, exciting, and enjoyable the performances were. If you've ever thought of getting all of the RVW symphonies but haven't, because of cost or what not, there are no more excuses, because here they are. This is the best set ever. Previn and the LSO had a magical relationship many years ago, and no one has ever done these symphonies better. If you find some of them tough nuts to crack, don't worry; RVW isn't always easy music, but it is well worth it. It's not supposed to be simple. Many Brits rate Previn tops in this music, and he had K.E. Wilkinson to handle the RCA engineering: top helm!

CONDITION: LP jacket conditions range from VG to EX; LP vinyl ranges from EX to NM; soundclips are being provided within 48 hours, sonically these LPs play EX to NM. The Red Seal vinyl in this set is of the heavier, higher quality grade, even though some of the labels are marked “dynaflex” (however they are not the bend-able vinyl, save LSC-3178). This is a high-quality set that will provide tremendous enjoyment to the owner for many, many hours of repeated listening.
