Harry James and his Orchestra 78 rpm Shellac 10" From the Bottom of my Heart / Melancholy Mood Brunswick 8443
In June 1939, bandleader Harry James, who had heard Sinatra sing on "Dance Parade", signed a two-year contract of $75 a week one evening after a show at the Paramount Theatre in New York. 
On July 13, 1939, then 23 year old Frank Sinatra recorded his first commercial record singing vocals for Harry James and His Orchestra. The songs were "From the Bottom of My Heart" and "Melancholy Mood". No more than 8,000 copies of the record were ever sold on the Brunswick label. Further records released with James through 1939, such as "All or Nothing at All", also had weak sales on their initial release. Thanks to his vocal training, Sinatra could now sing two tones higher, and developed a repertoire which included songs such as "My Buddy", "Willow Weep for Me", "It's Funny to Everyone but Me", "Here Comes the Night", "On a Little Street in Singapore", "Ciribiribin", and "Every Day of My Life".
If you are a collector of historic recordings and/or first recordings, you know how rarely these come up. If people know what they have, the just don't sell them. There are only 10 people on discogs that have logged this record (and that includes the less desirable version on the British Rhythm Society Label). This is the original US Brunswick version.
I've played this once on a Dual 1019 with a brand new ortofon 2M (specifically made to play 78s only). This record is 82 years old! There is some surface noise, but there are no cracks or skips on either side. Also includes the original Brunswick sleeve which is in great condition.
