Haitink Shostakovich Symphonies 6 & 11 2xLP box Decca 411 939-1 NM/EX.
Offered for sale is the legendary 1985 Decca 411 939-1 LP release of the Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Bernard Haitink performing Dimitri Schostakovich Symphonies 6 & 11.
The records are in play-graded NM condition, The box is graded VG++ due to some partial decolourisation of the front picture without additional issues. The 6 page inlay notes are in English, Frenchand German. Photos of the items are part of the description.

“You wouldn’t think that Shostakovich is a composer who suits Bernard Haitink, but the fact is that many of these performances are magnificent. Haitink has the measure of both the 6 and 11 works, no doubt of it, and his orchestra and his recording have a great capacity to convey stark contrasts e.g. the startling impact of the side-drum entry in the second movement of Symphony 11 and the deathly hush after its climax. No one betters the Concertgebouw when it comes to quality of orchestral response.
The No. 11 is one of the stronger issues in Haitink’s complete Shostakovich cycle, mainly due to the magnificent playing of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, which shakes off its cultured air and lets it all hang out. The brass project powerfully; the strings are nimble and tough, but still manage to keep their silken edge. And where will you find a woodwind section more colourful and sonorous than in Amsterdam? Hatink keeps the whole, long work moving with urgent tempos, especially in the two slow movements, whipping up an impressive noise in the second movement’s climax. Decca captures it all in full, clear sound with plenty of depth.”
