Description

This is the original deep-groove RVG-etched “P” pressing of Hank Mobley “Quintet” on the rare New York 23 labels of Blue Note BLP 1550. Side 1 has a nice luster and a few light inaudible splotches that are typical of records that have been long stored in their original inner sleeves; Side 2 appears to have a pressing defect on the rim and into the first grooves that clicks twice on the rim and once during the music; otherwise, the appearance is similar to that of Side 1. The laminated cover has the West 63rd St., New York 23 address and is bright and clean throughout: the top and bottom spine corners have 1/8” of wear; the spine a 1 1/8” center split, with ¼” lamination lifting (but no flaking); the bottom seam has 1 ½” split in the center and ¼” wear at the opening. Personnel include Art Farmer, Horace Silver, Doug Watkins, and Art Blakey. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------CHECK OUT the new book: "Blue Note Records, A Guide for Identifying Original Pressings" by Frederick Cohen.  My apologies to bidders.  This is an early pressing with a beaded rim, not an original with a flat rim.
