Description
Rare promo copy of the 1974 compilation album 'Hard Up Heroes'. Includes a printed letter from Roy Carr and Charles Shaar Murray, and official black and white head shots of some of the artists, all with Decca stamps and numbers on the back. Photos are of David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Cat Stevens, and Steve Marriot.
This is a double LP of mainly obscure mid-60s Decca tracks featuring first recordings from 'those who made it' (Rod Stewart, David Bowie, Steve Marriott, Joe Cocker, Cat Stevens, Jon Anderson, Van Morrison), some stalwarts 'who didn't' (Zoot Money, Alexis Korner, Graham Bond) plus a few who no doubt fall into the latter category including The Mojo's, The Poets and The Mighty Avengers.
One thing they all have in common though is that the recordings are in the main very good and never less than fascinating for which some credit is due to NME compilers Roy Carr and Charles Shaar Murray.
To quote the sleeve notes : This album is affectionately dedicated to those bands who made it, the ones who didn't and those poor unfortunate souls who wasted the most precious years of their youth sleeping rough on clapped out equipment in the back of broken down Bedford vans, ruined their digestion with motorway grease and were always six months behind with their H.P. payments.
The records are in great condition. One side of the sleeve has come apart, but the whole thing is kept in a transparent protective outer sleeve. A fabulous addition to a real rock fan's record collection!
