Folkways FP252, "Anthology of American Folk Music", Vol.2, edited by Harry Smith, from 1952. This is an early, heavy, DG blue-label pressing with an early cover. Vinyl (there are two LPs in all) plays at VG++; there is plenty of static on most of the reissued 78s that make up the Smith collection, but almost no wear on the vinyl itself. The box that houses the records is in VG+ condition with split corners on the upper half that could be repaired easily from the inside; the bottom half of the box has the beginning of splits on the right; the hinge and corners on the left are fine and more or less free of wear, so the box setup works well. There is some color loss at upper right (see scan); there is no writing and no stamps. The annotated lyrics booklet is in near fine condition. Artists and songs are too many to list here, but see scan for both. This is a wonderful collection, and a very influential one that no serious folk music fan should be without. Say what you like about Smith, he had excellent taste in roots music. Shipping is $4.00 media mail, $16.00 priority mail within the continental U.S.; $24.00 regular airmail to the U.K., Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. Sorry for the increased overseas shipping cost, but Folkways LPs are heavy. If you win one of the other Smith sets listed this week, shipping will cost $10.00 extra per set ($2.00 extra if domestic media mail) with any excess postage cheerfully refunded to you in dollars or British pounds sterling. Additional single LPs in a single package are $1.00 additional within U.S. and Canada, $3.00 overseas. For overseas shipments, registered mail is strongly recommended at $14.50 extra. Many old records are practically antiques and should be treated that way. This LP will be packaged with the record inside an inner sleeve but outside the jacket; both are placed inside a sealed outer sleeve and shipped inside a special oversized handcrafted mailer with padding on all sides. It is designed thick enough not to be bent in transit and strong enough to withstand a drop from a second-story window. More than two LPs together may be mailed inside a heavy Bags Unlimited pizza-style box. Your LP should arrive in the same condition as on the day it was shipped. All used LPs are play-graded on a VPI turntable with Audioquest tonearm and Grado cartridge.
