L. H. & the Memphis Sounds – “Out of Control” b/w “I’m a Fool (in Love)” (Hollywood 1122). Great 1968 Northern Soul by this group featuring Songwriters Allen Jones, Johnny Keyes and Homer Banks who collaborated on several projects on the Memphis music scene in the 60s. The involvement of Packy Axton in the LH & the Memphis Sounds recordings inevitably brought Stax co-owner - and Packy’s mum - Estelle Axton into the equation and she gave clandestine advice to the group on publishing and recording. The ballad flip House Full of Rooms has become a cult deep classic featuring lead singer LH White’s strong vocal aided by an almost doo-wop male backing group. The band’s second and rare outing for Hollywood is a solid northern cut with the flip an even more pronounced doo-wop influence to it. Take a listen to both sides. Record is a DJ copy. Vinyl is in M- condition but has the letters “OK” on one side.
