Hear! LED ZEPPELIN SELF TITLED 1 I '69 LP RARE PURPLE/ BROWN LABEL DIFFERENT MIX Hear! LED ZEPPELIN SELF TITLED 1 I '69 LP RARE PURPLE/ BROWN LABEL DIFFERENT MIX

LED ZEPPELIN LP

SELF TITLED

ATLANTIC RECORDS # SD 8216

Lower condition but exceedingly rare pressing of the first Led Zeppelin LP.  The copy we are offering here is an early United States pressing with the purple and brown record labels.

- Below is the information from Discogs regarding this pressing:

Label variant: (Atco) purple/brown Stereo labels that were only produced on Atlantic releases when pressed at RCA Records Pressing plant, Indianapolis. Some say these issues are "club" issues but no proof on release. Others feel that these were created from stock Atco labels to fill the need. "Club" or press error, a very rare label.

From BSN Pubs: this label is rare and only appeared on a few titles from around 8130 to 8200. The Led Zeppelin album error commands premium prices, since not only is the label in error, but side 1 of the album is a different mix from the regular pressing.

Also side 2 does sound a little different from the standard issue. There is a long pause between "Black Mountain Side" and "Communication Breakdown", where the standard issue had no silence at all. And there is an unusually long silence between "Communication Breakdown" and "I Can't Quit You Baby", much longer than was on the standard issue.

The running time for B5, "How Many More Times" is listed on the back cover as 3:30, but actually plays 8:30.

For Variant 3, track B5, the song "How Many More Times" is banded in the vinyl to be two (2) tracks instead of one. Visually Side B appears to have 6 tracks but plays the standard 5. The second band of B5 is positioned at the beginning of the 'atmospheric' break in the song, at ~3:35.

Please note on the LP we are offering here that band B5, "How Many More Times" is listed on the cover with a running time of 3:30 but actually plays for 8:30.  The same track is not the double-banded variation on the LP itself, listed as "variant 3" in Discogs.

We have recorded a sound clip from the LP so you can listen.

The sound clip was recorded from the actual record being offered here, with no filtering or enhancing of any kind.

The condition of both the cover and LP are around the G to G+ range.  The cover is completely apart and in 2 pieces.  The record has a considerable amount of scuffing and light scratching, along with some scratches that go deeper, especially a couple  near the middle of Side 2.  The record also has a light warp and did not affect play, although we did not listen past the first track but do not anticipate any issues at all from the minor warp.

All of our LP's are shipped in sturdy cardboard LP mailers with appropriate padding.

With the exception of sealed LP's, all LP's are removed from their outer sleeves to prevent seam splitting.

All records are carefully graded. In an attempt to give customers an accurate impression of condition rather than adhere to somewhat arbitrary criteria, The Great Escape gives an "overall presentation" grade; we do not give a "listening" grade. Our vinyl listings are supplemented when necessary with additional remarks. For example: where some dealers will not allow a cut corner on an otherwise near mint jacket (often automatically relegating it to a VG+ at best), we may grade such a record as NM and note the cut-out mark (thereby letting you know what it "really" looks like: a near-perfect record with a cut corner). LPs are graded cover first, followed by the grade for the vinyl.
