AMINOLLAH HOSSEIN was born in 1905 in Ashkabad, Iran. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Russia, due to their persecution in Iran as members of the Baha'i faith. As a child, Hossein learned to play the tar (a traditional Iranian instrumenent similar to the lute) from his mother, and fell in love with music. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, Hossein moved to Germany (Stuttgart) to study medicine on the insistence of his father, and simultaneously studied the piano with Artur Schnabel. In 1927, he moved to Paris, where he was to remain for the rest of his life. He became the first Iranian to enter the Paris Conservatory, studying composition and orchestration under Paul Vidal.

Hossein's first work, his ballet "Toward the Light," was performed in 1938 at the Paris Opera House. His later ballets, "Persian Miniatures" and "Scheherezade" were choreographed by George Skibine, one of Diaghilev's dancers. His other orchestrated works include the Symphony of the Sands (1946), the Persepolis Symphony (1947), the Arya Symphony (1976), and three piano concertos. He also composed twenty film scores--mostly for films directed by his son, the famed French actor and director Robert Hossein—using the pseudonym "Andre Gosselain". He died in Paris in 1983.

The t?r (Persian: ???) is a long-necked, waisted Iranian instrument.[1][2][3] It has been adopted by other cultures and countries like Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and other areas near the Caucasus region. The word tar ( ???') itself means "string" in Persian, though it might have the same meaning in languages influenced by Persian or any other branches of Iranian languages like Kurdish. Therefore, Tar is common amongst all the Iranian people as well as the territories that are named as Iranian Cultural Continent by the Encyclopædia Iranica. [4]

This is claimed to be the root of the names of the Iranian setar and the guitar as well as less widespread instruments such as the dutar and the Indian sitar. The exact place of origin of the tar cannot be confirmed. However, the tar was invented in the territories of, or influenced by, the Iranian Empire: Media/Persia (Iran), Afghanistan, and parts of the former Soviet republics, such as Armenia and Georgia. [5]

Tar is one of the most important Persian musical instruments. The formation, compilation, edition, and inheritance of the most authentic and most comprehensive versions of radif are all worked on tar. The general trends of Persian classical music have been deeply influenced by tar players.

When I listen to a record, I may also make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a given pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
