"ISIS, love them or hate them you've got to respect their success - who would have thought that such a seemingly heretic blend of modern metal and bombastic post rock could take them so far? Scraping up fans from all four corners of the globe they have become synonymous with heavy-duty live shows and winning over those people you never even liked metal - not only this but they've diversified with two stunning side projects - Red Sparrowes and MGR. To top it off they managed to rope in remixes from Tim Hecker, Fennesz and label boss Mike Patton among others. no mean feat when you're a band not usually submerged in remix culture, so there has been serious anticipation building around the release of 'In the Absence of Truth', their latest full-length. It's been two years since the epic 'Panopticon' and the band move their sound on here by taking themselves even deeper into the progressive rock territory, with giant technical compositions clothed in wailing vocals and soaring guitars. If Sigur Ros made metal I would hazard a guess that it would sound something like this - strangely jubilant with plenty of air-punching moments, but harbouring enough distorted electric guitar bite to keep you on your toes as you attempt to head-butt your neighbouring mosher. Housed in some of the most beautiful artwork I've seen this year it is what I like to call a 'complete package', and how could I expect any less from ISIS? Just skip to 'Dulcinea' for a perfect example of their now perfectly honed prog metal hybrid as rolling metal kick drums underpin echoing guitars and emotive vocals, then of course, mid way through we get a burst of life before the track breaks down into a sea of ambience and atmosphere. This is a band that manage to condense more ideas into eight minutes than most manage over the course of a career and it's a pleasure to hear them at work. If you're a paid up ISIS follower then 'In the Absence of Truth' is going to be even more reason to salivate over their very mention, and if you've never stumbled across the band before now might be just the right time to start. This is the Isis "In The Absence Of Truth" double lp vinyl record set released by Conspiracy Records in 2006.
The album features nine tracks over two records. The lps are packaged in a gatefold card sleeve with two full-colour printed paper inner sleeves and housed inside a protective transparent pvc jacket with a sticker on it. The lps are brand new, have never been played and have no surface marks that I can detect.The reason I have listed this item as new is that there is a little wear to the inner sleeves: they both have some small creases and one of them has a tear at the seam. This item would make a welcome addition to any Isis/ Red Sparrowes/ Neurosis/ Cult Of Luna/ Old Man Gloom/ Pelican/ Mogwai/ post-metal/ etc fan's collection!
