ITHACA – A Game For All Who Know. Acme Deluxe ADLP 1033, UK release. Issued in 2002. NEW LP. Originally a very rare privately pressed, demo-only, album (72/73). MEMBERS: Lee Menelaus, John Ferdinando, Peter Howell, and Brian Hussey with Robert Ferdinando, Andrew Lowcock, and Martin Garrett. TRACKS: Journey: Destruction/Rebirth – Patterns Of Life, Questions: Did You Know? – Will We Be Alive?, Times: Seven Seasons – The Path – Given Time, Feelings: Look Around You – I Want To Feel You, Dreams: Story Of Our Time – Beneath This Sky, Journey (ii): A Game For All Who Know. DESCRIPTION: What I’ve found out about this band suggested a heavily influenced early seventies Moody Blues sound, but I’d place this somewhere in with Syd Barrett era Floyd and Kevin Ayers/Robert Wyatt era Softs. In other words, we're talking progressive pop/rock with quasi-mystical lyrics and mellow folk psych melodies. The mood of the music also reminded me of Future Games/Bare Trees period Fleetwood Mac. Some of the tracks incorporate a mellotron like sound, which accounts for the Moody’s influence, but does not dominate the sound. Also, occasional wistful female vocals. Among the better moments are Dreams and Times. The individuals responsible for this had earlier been involved in Agincourt, Alice Through The Looking Glass and Tomorrow Come Some Day. The Ithaca album has been a mega-rarity. The band was also responsible for an acetate album called Friends, but this was never released. This reissue comes from original master tapes, limited to a pressing of around 500 in this vinyl form.
