This is an outstandingly rare 1958 recording by the great Eugene Ormandy with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
It's very unusual for me to list anything on eBay that doesn't rate as at least 'Excellent', but I'm going to make an exception for this as it's almost impossible to find in any condition! At the time of listing, Ebay UK and US both show no copies in current or completed listings. Discogs has none for sale, and only one contributor listed as owning this disc.
For a recording of a major work by one of the great figures of classical music, this has left very little trace on Google and has to be one of the scarcest discs I've ever listed!
The fully laminated flipback sleeve is in lovely condition, clean and stylish with no laminate lift or markings and would rate as 'Excellent', except for a split to the centre of the spine of about 3cm. which shows no signs of extending.
The disc has significant surface noise for the first 20 seconds or so of each side, but quickly settles down into a very satisfying listen with occasional low level background noise, certainly not enough to spoil what is a magnificent recording of two beautiful works. Aside from the run-in, it rates as a strong VG.
The disc has been cleaned on a Moth Mk2 Pro record cleaning machine with L'art Du Son fluid. Postage will be in a professional record mailer with board stiffeners and the disc removed from the inner sleeve to avoid splits during transit. Record Collectors Grading System
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
