Jan Garbarek Østerdalsmusikk-Ultra rare MAI label Listen! This LP needs no further introduction, one of Garbareks rarest releases besides Til Vigdis, not released on ECM but on the small socialist label MAI. This LP makes jazzversions out of folk tunes from the Østerdal in Norway, a place filled with rich folk music traditions. The LP is featuring some of Norways top jazz musicians that Garbarek usually did not record with Torgrim Sollid, Knut Riisnæs, Alf Erling Kjellmann, Erling Aksdal jr, Bjørn Alterhaug and Ole Jacob Hansen and Lars Martin Thomassen. The lp is filled with some amazing jazz folk tracks but also some gems that sounds like soundtrack to a french film noir movie like Pols etter Martinius Helgesen which is a real dancefloor groover and the spiritual jazz track Gukko fra Asbygda. One of the best jazz records ever to come out of Norway.
