JACK MONTGOMERY
Northern Soul classic!

So it turns out that Jack Montgomery was actually Marvin Jones. So why the name change? Either one would have served very well for this aspiring singer. The new name was one that was given to Marvin by producer Don Mancha. The pair started out with a record on Mancha's own Barracuda Records label, but then felt that a move to a larger label was in order.

They got a limited deal with Scepter in 1966 and in August they had the release of this, their only single with the label. On the topside is the well regarded Northern Soul classic "Dearly Beloved." It's flipped with "Do You Believe It."

Mancha says that a third song was cut at the same session and it later surfaced on a single with Revue Records, but by that time Montgomery/Jones had already gone their different ways.

Many of the Scepter Records singles are pressed on styrene, but this promo, from August of 1966, is ON VINYL with clean labels. Superior sound for a great dance floor mover.
