This is one of three really exciting, Jacqueline Du Pre, signed items I currently have listed for auction.  This one also has Daniel Barenboim’s autograph.  Both signatures are very clear and have obviously sellotaped to the sleeve decades ago.  The Du Pre one is lifting away from the sleeve, the glue having dried over the years.

 

I can find no other autograph of Jacqueline Du Pre’s offered for sale anywhere on the internet and also none of the two together.  In such a short career as hers, the opportunity of obtaining one from her, particularly given the nature of her debilitating illness which took her out of circulation long before her untimely death, would have been very scarce.  Therefore this, (and the two others I have currently listed, all from the same source) is an incredibly rare item.

 

The LP is in lovely condition, the merest hint of a mark which has not damaged the vinyl in any way being the only flaw.  There is some background noise to the record when played.  I did not find this unduly intrusive and much of the music, stunning in sound quality, masks it.  Having said that, I play-tested this on a very, very revealing system, my Linn Sondek, Ittok arm and incredibly transparent, Linn Arkiv cartridge, plus high end valve amplification. 

 

Although the record is a little compromised by the background noise the quality of the recording is exceptional as one would expect this first pressing, ASD recording to be.   An autographed copy of such a relatively sought after LP by such stars of the classical music world is unlikely, if ever, to come up for sale or auction again.   Other than the other two similar items I have currently listed, this is probably a unique opportunity to bid on an exceptionally rare, collectors’ item.
