LE CANTIQUE DES CANTIQUES - Cantate Hebraique (Extracts from "The Song Of Songs")Rare original French pressing LP on Philips (R 77.488 L / R 832.582 Y).
Extracts from King Solomon's Book sung in Hebrew, featuring the amazing sound structures of French musical pioneers Lasry-Baschet, instruments from ancient Israel, and the haunting vocals of Yiddish folk singer Sarah Gorby, who ideally interprets the extraordinary love poem. Her voice is deep, her interpretation generous and stern, and sometimes strongly emotional in tender abandon.
A very unique record with beautiful melodies but also quite unusual and experimental in places. The melodies do not belong to any folklore but were written by Jacques Lasry under the impulse of what is called << imaginary folklore >>.
