James Blackshaw O True Believers Original Bo’Weavil LP Mint! Rare!
Original Mint/Unplayed copy of this very rare and long OOP album from free folk guitarist James Blackshaw, released by Bo’Weavil Recordings in a hand-numbered edition of 650 copies with paste-on sleeves. One of the best sounding records Blackshaw has released to date, stately arcs of wood and wire are given a little frisson of natural reverb and some airy overtones that makes the melodies sound almost as if they were originally written for performance on lute or harpsichord. Indeed, Sandy Bull seems like the closest comparison here, especially in the way that the playing and overall conception seems to draw on European renaissance forms as much as modern American folk trance ala Basho's Falconer's Arms. Besides 12-string, O True Believers also makes evocative use of cymbala, tamboura, harmonium and percussion. Blackshaw's best? Well, yeah.
