Artist: JAMES CARR
Title: “A Man Needs a Woman”
Label: GOLDWAX ~ GW 3002. Stereo pressing on medium weight vinyl, with deep groove. Labels are yellow with black text.
Condition:
DISC: Vinyl is NM-/NM with full original gloss. Has been played one or two times at most, and handled with utmost care. Vinyl surfaces are immaculate, with only the slightest couple hairline scuffs on Side 1 which are not audible. The disc plays beautifully with superb fidelity – no tics, pops, noise, or distractions – just pure, clean sound.
Labels are pristine with no spindle trail marks or other flaws. This is a disc for the archives.
JACKET: Jacket is EXCELLENT. Front artwork is clean and bright. A few places of light wear on seams and corners. Reverse is clean, except some faint darkening around the edges (nothing major). No writing, stickers or cut-out indications. Overall a very nice jacket to accompany the beautiful disc.

“Along with his other original Goldwax LP, You Got My Mind Messed Up, James Carr's Man Needs a Woman represents one of the high watermarks of Southern soul music. And beyond his tonal resemblance to Otis Redding, Carr was as distinct a voice as the genre ever produced. Compilations on both Kent (Complete Goldwax Singles) and Razor & Tie (The Essential James Carr) are certainly good places to start, but this LP might be even a better introductory title, especially considering the likelihood one will want to obtain all of Carr's prime late-'60s work. Whether Carr revels in the up-tempo soul of "I'm a Fool for Your" or stops the presses on sanctified slow-burners like "You've Got My Mind Messed Up" and the Dan Penn and Chips Moman-penned classic "Dark End of the Street," the intensity never falters.”
