CONDITION:
cover: Excellent
faint shelf wear/soiling ~ tiny fray to corners
small lite crease upper right
vinyl: Excellent
clean & glossy ~ a few lite paper sleeve lines & a couple of tiny smudges
~ superficial surface only ~ plays excellent with just 1 or 2 odd occasional soft lite clicks
& minimal occasional lite low level surface noise in a couple of spots

"Fuzz, Acid & Flowers" on this group & their LP
A San Diego group formerly known as The Jamul City Funk Band. Jamul
(pronounced 'Ha-Mool') is a city in eastern San Diego county. Armstrong
was formerly with The Misfits, Desnoyers with Joel Scott Hill in The Friendly Grin,
and Williams with Puzzle and The Voxmen. The Jamul City Funk Band was a trio
until just a few months before recording, when Williams came aboard. This gave
the band the distinct advantage of three lead singers trading off on individual tracks.
The band was signed by Steppenwolf producer Gabriel Mekler to his new
Lizard Records label, and it was at Mekler's insistence that they shortened their name
to Jamul. For those interested in true minutae, "Lizard" was the name of Mekler's pet cat!
The Jamul album has much to recommend it, particularly to fans of loud hard rock
(Euclid , labelmates Frantic , Yesterday's Children bear some resemblance). Of the eleven
tracks that make up the album, eight are original. There's also a brutal cover of Tobacco Road,
a dirge-like Jumpin' Jack Flash and a bluesy Long Tall Sally with Williams wailing away on
harmonica. If this album had not sold in excess of 75,000 copies in 1970, it would be fetching
serious money today.
