Description
Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up by Jeff Simmons was released in 1970 on Frank Zappa’s Straight label, matrix no. STS1057 A1/B1 .
This is a single, vinyl LP with gatefold sleeve, non-laminated format, which incorporates full lyric sheet.
The vinyl is unmarked, pristine. From my own, personal collection, Lucille has been lovingly cosseted from day one
Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford this is one of a tiny number of UK copies of this immensely collectable album. The only hint of wear is some minor fading along the spine, otherwise there appears to be no discolouration – it looks like new.
The labels are the original Straight UK deep magenta-red format. They are very clean examples, with minor spindle marks only.

As I have only recently discovered, this album, from my own personal collection is quite possibly the rarest UK Straight album of all, one of rock’s ‘lost’ titles.
At the time, sales of this album may just have made it into double figures – ok, I’m exaggerating, but only a minimal number were pressed, let alone survive to this day in such a well-preserved state.
Even the US version is not common but the UK pressed album and cover are possibly the rarest titles ever issued on Zappa’s Straight label.
Jeff Simmons (the owner of the crazed afro on the cover) was briefly the bass player in Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention circa 1971. He made just the one album on the Straight label and this is a prized title for any fan of Zappa. Frank plays lead guitar on ‘’Lucille’ and ‘Raye’; the album also includes two of his compositions (one co-written with Simmons) and he also produces (both under the name of La Marr Bruister).
Regardless of it’s collectability, this is a superb album of blues-based rock that includes that other great Mother, Ian Underwood. The full line-up was: Jeff Simmons - Electric bass, piano, organ, accordion and vocals; Frank Zappa - lead guitar; Craig Tarwater - Guitars; Ian Underwood - Saxophones; Ron Woods - drums, percussion and John Kehlior - drums. A rare opportunity for Straight and Zappa fans to own one of the most elusive albums of this period.
