Description
JETHRO TULL - This Was - EX 1968 Island LP A/B first stereo
Time to sell more of my vinyl collection - some classical, some jazz, some pop, rock, folk & psych. I know it won't be appreciated by my daughter or the next generation, so I'm shifting it myself and hope I find good homes for it. Initially I am just picking at random from duplicates, stuff I have on CD and items unplayed for ages so there should be a decent mix. You never know, there might just be something to suit your taste.
This listing is for a great copy of the original stereo release of Tull's first album.
Jethro Tull -
This Was
UK Island press with orange ball labels (with NCB Scandinavia distributor logo)
1969
Cat Number: ILPS 9085 dead wax ILPS+9085+A / ILPS+9085+B.
Mode: Stereo
The Album:
Brilliant debut album from Jethro Tull released more than 250 years after he invented the seed drill. This copy is one distributed in Sweden - it is the same as the UK version except it carries the 'NCB Licensed by Chrysalis logo' on the label - I believe that NCB handled distribution throughout the whole of Scandinvia. Sleeve is the standard UK issue gatefold. A great copy in really nice condition.
Condition:
Cover: Externally-laminated gatefold sleeve is in great condition. It is solid and intact with just a hint of ringwear and some slight laminate creasing. Spine is clear and strong, part of the second 'L' is partly rubbed away otherwise text is clear and legible. Inner fold is clean and bright, though Claes Persson has written his name inside. No other writing, tears or stickers.
Labels: Original Island pink labels with first issue black and orange ball logo, bright and clean. No obvious spindle marks, no stickers. The side B label has a very faint impression of another 'island' presumably from the wet ink of another copy stacked during the manufacturing process - clearly shown in picture. Excellent.
Vinyl: Glossy vinyl with good lustre. Some of the customary very faint hairline paper scrapes. It plays excellently.
Overall:
A fine copy of this great album - I'd guess that this might be professionally graded at (cover / vinyl) EX- / EX
Terms:
Please note that I try to test-play at least part of each record before listing, but do not have time to play fully in all cases. I played a lot of this one, but if you do discover a problem which I might have missed, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will do all I can to rectify the situation.
Postage: Royal Mail are 'restructuring' prices from April 2013. Not necessarily all bad news, it depends what you buy - a single LP posted to UK or Europe is now more expensive, but within UK revised weight ranges might allow up to 4 LPs to be posted for the same cost as one. Rest of world prices seem to have reduced slightly. Approximate prices for normal postage - UK £3.35 for up to 1kg (could be up to 4 LPs), Europe £5.30 + £1.80 each additional, Rest of world £7.55 + £2.70 each additional item - these amounts include estimated actual Royal Mail cost for first class or air mail, plus 35p for cost of packaging material (a brand new custom mailer with stiffener).
Apologies, but owing to unreliability of some postal services, I will not ship to Italy, Russian Federation, Ukraine and other former Soviet countries unless a signed for service is selected and paid for.
Losses: Royal Mail are also reducing maximum compensation to £20 unless items are signed-for. Overseas purchasers - if your purchase is well over £20, a signed for service MUST be selected when paying as I will not assume the extra risk and normal airmail will only be covered for £20. Compensation on signed-for shipments is up to £50.
I'm happy to hold records for a short while if you wish to bid on more and combine shipment.
These records are all from my personal collection built up over almost 50 years. Some were bought new, others pre-owned so condition will vary. My attempt at grading is based on Record Collector's grading system. Please therefore read and understand the detailed description which is my honest personal assessment - and I guess you can always check how good or bad that is by checking my feedback. Questions welcome if anything is unclear. Happy bidding.
