Description

Here is a SUPER RARE 7” 45 of  J.D. and the Hoods on Barbarian Records of Memphis.  There were only about 300 copies produced so definitely tough to find.  J.D. is, of course, Jim Dickinson and his “Hoods” includes a cast of Memphis legends like Alex Chilton, Fred Ford, Lee Baker, Richard Rosenbrough, Mike Ladd, Lisa Aldridge, etc.  I would highly recommend reading Robert Gordon’s book “It Came From Memphis” for the whole crazy story on Barbarian Records.  New York Times critic Robert Palmer rated this record one of the top 10 releases for 1980.   

The record has an AMAZING sleeve designed by local artist Tom Foster.  It’s a gatefold design and also has wings that fold out.  He also did another fantastic Barbarian sleeve for Lesa of the Klitz.  Tom recently cranked up a Barbarian blog with lots of cool info at www.barbarianrecords.blogspot.com  so check it out.

CONDITION:  The record is unplayed.  You can tell it’s unplayed because the spindle hole is not punched out on the paper labels!  The record itself is drilled, but you will need to poke a spindle hole through the paper label to actually play it. NOTE: the record has a slight warp on the leading edge.  Legend has it Dickinson’s car ran out of gas when he went to pick the records up at the pressing plant in Coldwater, Mississippi and they sat in the car and got a little hot!  There are a few very light scratches, but nice shiny vinyl.
