Hi, I am Mike, I am 46 and have been a music collector and enthusiast for over 33 years now. We all wish we could turn back the clock and buy those wonderful brand new records from the 60s and 70s, but alas, this is not possible; so I always try to offer the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. No vinyl/music lover really would choose to buy second-hand, but this is only way now to own these valuable, prized and ellusive items now. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirity, not just bits to guess a grade (on a Rega 3 deck with Ortofon cartridge) - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story - I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested reader – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get. The only thing I cannot guarantee one hundred percent is exact colour matching - this depends on the lighting at the time and that is out of my control, but I feel sure most items will be very close to the actual real item. Variation can sometimes occur too in colour of the label scans and labels taken next to the sleeve with a digital camera, the scanned full label pictures should be the most accurate. If any picture I take looks more flattering than the actual item for any reason, I will clearly state the fact in the advert. Album Title: Axis: Bold as Love.

Label/Format: Track (these appear slightly grainy, with a very lightly textured appearance).

Label Condition: Very clean and attractive but, in terms of quantity, only a small number of spindle marks, but these are thicker than normal, I have seen this type of spindle mark before, they, I think were caused by a thick vintage stacking type spindle (my parents has one of these). The top was more ‘blunt’ and simply left a wider spindle trace. As stated there are not that many of these and importantly there is zero wear around the spindle holes which tells me this vintage classic has only been played modestly, even lightly really. Being a matt black label these show up a tad more than may they would have done on other labels, side one shows a little more than two, but quite honestly taken into context of what many will look like I think this pair still look real nice. There is also too a very small, very neat script type sig on side two - to be totally honest I almost missed this, the owner clearly wanted his id on this record but not wanting it to show. The fine tip fountain pen ink colour is virtually the same as the labels and it almost invisible unless scrutinised really closely - this sig remains almost undetectable and you will not see a trace of it on my scan of side two, it takes a real close look on the real thing to see this, so why worry about it anyway? (Please see label scans for all information needed, I have tried to sharpen the picture and scan to a higher than normal resolution to bring out all the details, the silver ink rarely scans well as its just reflected back off the scanner, but those spindle marks should show - I hide nothing).

Mono or Stereo: Stereo (this was issued in mono too).

Country of Manufacture: Gt Britain.

Rarity: Getting rare as available copies dry up. Personally I think the stereo version of this album is rarer, I have had or seen so few stereo copies, probably on a 4:1 ratio with monos showing up more.

Original Year of Release: 1967

Matrix Nos: 613003 A1 1 11 11 and 613003 B1 1 11 2. How early is this one, it must be a first pressing surely?

Always a pleasure to offer an original stereo copy of this Hendrix treasure - the second of the three Experience classics - they are getting very hard to find at all now here in the UK, clean copies that play well are even more ellusive. This album charted at 5 and 3 in the UK and US respectively, a hugely strong follow up to the classic Are You Experienced, slightly less demonstrative of his guitar skills but proving himself as a formidable song writer, including several reflective compositions none better than the haunting ‘Little Wing’. Axis… always features high in any list of all times greats and justifiably so. How many times do you see this record offered, just to find its been played into oblivion? Massive solid masses of spindle marks around the centre hole and the hole perimeter worn to white, the record covered in a multitude of scratches, scuffs and a dulled grey looking piece of vinyl covered in a maze of finger marks or foreign debris? An album as important as most in that great year of 1967 - the summer of love - just think this record was actually purchased while the great man was still alive - This makes a record like this indispensable. This stereo copy even includes the highly ellusive insert - an item even rarer than the record itself, it only came with a few originals and this one is a beauty and shows only minimal handling over its great age (and NO pin holes or mounting tack - this is totally unmounted). It has a solid cover with only minimal wear (described below). The sound and mix on this early copy is amazing: the stereo imagery is phenomenal and even, for me, surpasses the mono versions (both are truly essential make no mistake) - emphasised right at the very start when the channel to channel guitar blasts around the spooky alien voice on ‘EXP’. The record, clearly has been played several times, but way below average and in real terms for this album - pretty light. It retains stunning sound and no distortion, this is so important and should please most collectors. The sound on this vintage record will never be beaten, this is the real thing, no remixing, remastering no tampering, it was produced by Chas Chandler and this is how he wanted it to sound - why fool around with perfection? This sound and mix on this vintage Track copy is definitive, sit back and enjoy it and listen in awe of the master genius that was Jimi Hendrix.

Cover Condition and Details: I slightly tricky one to grade overall as the main 4 faces are superb, its has some edgewear, so I feel an overall grading of EX(-) would be pretty fair - let’s face it, its 37 years old. Its a gatefold format, laminated front and back, four flipbacks inside the centrefold, Printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd, London. Mono and Stereo cat numbers are printed inside. The spine has no text on this early version cover. One of the masterpiece covers of the 60s, all with know this one, you could hardly miss it with its stunning artwork. This copy on offer is very solid and attractive, it has some edgewear and edge chips, hardly rare on this one but still looking pretty spectacular.

Lamination: Very solid laminate with no peeling or dry areas. Still with a fair degree of shine and minimal dulled areas. A few light surface indentations, showing little and hardly at all under normal viewing conditions, importantly this has hardly any creasing at all, that really does wreck this cover, so a huge plus for that. This laminate has done its job well in protecting the incredible vivid artwork that lies beneath.

Cover Front: Clean and very attractive, minor encroachment of the edgewear. Cover fronts in terms of artwork rarely come much better than this.

Cover Back: Very similar to the front, even better if anything. No ringwear or pressmarks at all.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Little to really fault here, its clearly been handled but no wear or damage at all, The four flipbacks are truly superb, just a few hairlines (as per normal) but still firmly stuck down and no evidence of them ever coming loose. They remain totally unfrayed on the top edges which to say the least is very unusual so their attractiveness remains very high indeed. Minor encroachment on the right hand bottom centre from the edgewear beneath - very minor indeed.

Top Edge: Very little wear at all, minor rub on the right corner area.

Bottom Edge: This is where most of the wear lies: The centre area on the back edge (approx 1 inch) has a moderate rub but little else up to the last inch of the left side up to the spine edge. The bottom front edge has some sporadic chips and rubbing on each end.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with little wear down to the bottom corner. Record entered on right outside edge, but can be considered the top if the cover is viewed the right way up, in other words the records enters the back edge of the front text area.

Spine and Text: Solid and square with rubbing to the last inch at the top and only the very bottom of the bottom, All the rest is superb, there was no text ever printed on this one. The spine laminate is very sound indeed.

Corners: All corners have some wear ranging from light to moderate.

Cover Summary: Even with the mixed edgewear this cover is still very attractive and when kept inside a heavy duty protective cover looks wonderful (this of course will include such a cover).Still above average this will please many collectors still, but not the connoisseur or perfectionist.

The Insert: EX+ (at least). The best one I have yet seen or had to offer.Totally unmounted or faded and this is very much the exception rather than the rule. This still has a bright orange colour and was very prone to fading if kept out of the over for long. The only damage, if you can call it that, is a couple of nick tears on the left face, on top and one bottom, both around 5mm, that tiny, no other tears or damage at all. No ‘extra’ creases or folds other than the standard central fold which remains very strong from top to bottom and no reinforcing cellotape or similar. All edges are very sharp and no dogeared. Certainly no writing front or back, infact the back is incredibly clean and fresh (as is the front). A few surface crinkles if being hyper-critical, its been handled very lightly and I would put this up against most because apart from the fact this insert is getting so rare now its rarely found looking this good.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EX. A superb visual copy . Super clean, shiny, jet black and very heavily pressed - later pressed copies became thinner. A few small marks on each side, mostly light hairline types that are pretty much ignored, a few surface traces too. But I cannot reitterate enough how rare it is to find a first pressing this clean - it was only yesterday (Saturday 12th) I was offered two original Jimi’s, both were trashed - more like what is found more often than not, however tempting it is to buy the genuine rare albums when available, I simply refuse anything less than VG and these were at least two grades below that, sadly more are found like this than the higher grades we all desire. This record is pretty exceptional for any album this age let alone a Hendrix album which for some reason always got hammered. A copy with light plays on all the evidence - those spindle marks are just thick NOT numerous. Visually a super record that should please most collectors I feel.

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This super record plays up to its high visual grading with only little to fault. It plays with strong, undistorted sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is astonishing with incredible stereo imagery, so important on this album. There is a little surface sound and a few light ticks on the delicate opener ‘EXP’ in places and a mild trace on the following song but thereafter I would say there is little to fault at all. Side two plays close to perfect with stunning sound. Any other surface sounds are minimal indeed, maybe the faintest trace on the linking grooves - few copies will play better than this overall. The total lack of groove wear distortion is vital, both channels are clean and sharp, I feel very sure this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and looked after, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Little, if anything spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this gem, in real terms one of the best stereo originals I have yet heard. This copy could prove pretty difficult to find significantly better.

Mono vs Stereo, an overview: Always a matter of opinion which is better or more important. For any serious collector where there is a choice e.g. Beatles, Stones, Hendrix etc. both are essential. True Stereo albums give great imagery and presence whereas mono albums usually are more dynamic, louder and present the detail more clearly. Mono albums are far harder to find in genuinely top playing condition. Most were heavily played, particularly the truly great bands and artists, often covered in mark and scratches, many severe and labels that were a mass of spindle marks. The majority were played on vintage and unsubtle decks with heavy tonearms and thick styli (often sapphire, not diamond, that chipped more easily) that rendered heavy wear in a very short time to many a fine classic record. Wear to the delicate groove walls, particularly the innermost tracks to the labels were most vulnerable where the tracking angle became more severe and the backdrag actually stripped the delicate groove walls. This resulted in surface noise and mild/moderate distortion or worse. These old decks tracked by sheer weight and little of any refined engineering. Next time you see such a deck at a local record fayre, feel the weight of the arm, it almost makes you wonder how any records survived at all. The point of this paragraph is emphasise that when a truly clean, lightly played and great sounding 60s mono album (or stereo come to that) is offered, treasure it, because for sure they are truly getting vary rare and precious - beware - demand only play-graded records. As a general guide to rarity, mono was the far more common format from 61–65; Around 66–67 the balance was roughly equal, then from 68-69 the balance swung more to stereo, making monos from these dates far scarcer, even rare - this guide is important and effects values greatly.

Album Played For Grading: Yes.

Final Summary: One of the genuine giants of rock music history, nothing betters the sound of a very early pressed Hendrix stereo album, even if there are a few relatively minor surface sounds, a small price to pay to hear the original mix and sound devoid of that nasty distortion or heavy clunks that blight so many copies, the music quality is such little will marr your enjoyment hearing this generally very clean, lightly played copy. The inclusion of the insert is too a massive bonus, so many copies, even first pressings lack this, so much so this rare ellusive insert now can sometimes be found offered on its own (usually tatty) - obviously the records being so trashed they are rendered worthless. So a very solid copy all round, described as honestly as possible I would not feel happy refunding on any part of this advert that has been clearly mentioned - these adverts take a long time to produce so please read it all carefully. I keep my opening bid realistic, we all know how rare and desirable a classic like this and that insert makes a massive difference.
