From my cherished Hendrix collection I am pleased to offer an exceptional example of the brilliant live album by JIMI HENDRIX titled “BAND OF GYPSYS”, Catalogue Number 2406 002. This is an ORIGINAL 1970 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the TRACK RECORD LABEL, with a superb 2nd ISSUE MacNEILL PRESS LTD “ISLE OF WIGHT” sleeve. [There is a lot of misinformation concerning this album. Isle of Wight sleeved LPs are widely referred to as 2nd pressings – but this is simply not the case. Certainly it’s true that the “Puppet” sleeves were printed first, but these were withdrawn due to legal problems well ahead of the 25th March 1970 release date. Production of the Isle of Wight sleeves also commenced before the release date, and upon release both versions were available. The 1st press matrix numbers for this LP are Av1/B=1. Not all Puppet sleeved copies came with Av1, B=1 records, I have seen several with Av2, Bv2 stamped matrix numbers. The matrix numbers of the copy for sale here are Av1, B=1 – a true 1st pressed copy. The Isle of Wight sleeved pressings are also significantly rarer than the Puppet sleeved ones and much harder to find in truly excellent condition].

The sleeve is in EX condition with only very light wear and minor creasing. 

The record is in EX+ condition. It is a nice solid pressing with a tapered rim edge. It retains it’s just pressed shine and sits perfectly flat on the turntable. The matt black Track labels are unmarked with only a few short spindle traces each side. There is virtually no wear to the spindle hole which still retains some plastic flashing from manufacture. Audio playback is MINT- throughout with no discernable deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all. This is one of my all-time favourite live albums with Hendrix at the peak of his powers. It’s no wonder that these Track 1st pressings are so highly sought after.

Complete with the correct 1st issue white poly-lined inner sleeve which is also in EX condition.

Overall this is a beautiful barely-played example which will grace any record collection.

GRADINGS

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:

·         MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.

·         EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.

·         VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects. Still a very presentable sleeve.

PACKAGING

LPs are packaged with care and well protected to ensure that they arrive safely in the same condition as they leave me. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
