welcome to

MY COLLECTING PASSION

Unexpected health issues have brought me to the point that after forty years of collecting I want to part with my vinyl and try to fund some bucket list experiences.

I am reluctant and excited to be making the move to sell my entire record collection. One record at a time.

I've really enjoyed collecting records and crate digging wherever I went. Some were bought new at the time or release. Others I bought used from record shops, markets, secondhand shops.

These items are all from my own personal collection. I am not a shop!

I will take the time and care to give you all the information that you seek and provide your records in a safe and timely manner or your money back.

BEFORE YOU START BIDDING

Here are some things that are good to know in advance.

Most of my collection has been carefully boxed and stored for a number of years.I'm just unpacking some of it now. I will give them a simple clean before playing but all will have some amount of dust and I leave any deep cleaning up to you, as everyone has there own preferences.

All my vinyl has been played and enjoyed and has been a soundtrack to my life. I took care of them but sometimes silly accidents happen, records pick up fine marks from being taken in and out of sleeves, even from cleaning. I try to mention as much as I can and point out the worst of what I see.

  • I play test every record from start to finish.

  • I write more about any flaws than I do about the great bits.

  • Vinyl is played with a Thorens TD 165 turntable and Rotel amp.

  • A track by track assessment is given.

  • I use the U.K Rare Record Price Guide used for grading.

  • The definitions for each grade are displayed below the listing.

  • Postal information and prices are also displayed below.

  • Records are provided with an additional white inner and poly sleeve.

  • Records OVER 40 GBP will be shipped Royal Mail Special Delivery to enable insurance cover. The cost is 8 GBP. Please wait to be invoiced.

  • I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

GRADES

We'll take a look at the record sleeve, inner and any additional inserts. Visually grade both labels and both sides of the vinyl. I will play each side through and give a track by track analysis and grade. From those grades an average grade is reached for each side.

THE SLEEVE

LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE

FRONT.

Nice sheen, some light superficial storage marks. Very little sign of ring wear. In fact there is just a small area where you can see the very beginning stages. Really nice looking cover. No stickers or sticker marks. No rips or tears. There is pretty much no creasing. There's a small chip in the surface material on the top left edge about 2 inches in from the spine. Rubbing on all corners. Bottom corners just some mild rubbing. Top corners have a bit more rubbing. Excellent

BACK.

Looks fantastic and much as the front. Quite rubbed top left corner. Grades excellent minus.

SPINE. In great condition. No splits, no compression and no rubbing along its edge. Rubbing at both end corners.

OPENING.

Good and flat. No major feathering or rips. Some light creasing and soft bumps. Very presentable.

CORNERS.

Front bottom corners both mild rubbing. Back bottom corners are the same. All top corners have more rubbing than the lower ones.

TOP AND BOTTOM EDGES.

Neither bottom edge show any splits or rubbing and look great. Top edge has no rubbing along the edge, or splits. Ends are rubbed at teh corners. A couple of small chipped spots.

INSIDE GATEFOLD.

Great clean panels. No writing or stains.

INNER SLEEVE

This comes with two poly lined paper sleeves. Both sleeves have the "Plastic bags can be dangerous" text. I am unsure if these are originals. Neither have splits, names or tears. Both have discoloured with age, and have some age spots. Both grade very good minus.

LABELS

All are in EXCELLET PLUS condition.

let's have a listen

AUDIO GRADINGS

LISTENING WITH HEADPHONES

SIDE ONE

And the gods made love. Nice low end as it starts off. Very low dust crackle in quieter moments. No sign of any deterioration to the over all sound quality. Grades excellent minus.

Electric ladyland.Nice and loud and clear. The bass stands out, vocals too. Light crackle. Grades very good plus

Crosstown traffic. Sounding good. The drums are up there in the mix in parts; snare and kick drum sound punchy. Top frequencies hang together and there's no loss there. Grades as excellent.

Voodoo chile. Some dusty crackle can be heard at the start whilst the song slowly builds up. The record would like a deep clean. Everything sounds clear though. The bass is thumping in the speakers. No breaking up of the organs high or louder notes. Vocals are crisp and sounding good. Great jam session by the sounds of it. A bit of background crackle become a little more evident for a verse or so past the halfway mark before the tasty little drum break. Grades excellent minus. There's some chat as an outdo, crackle is noticeable here the most.

I thought that was a decent sounding side, with no real issued other than mentioned. There were no pops or repeating tick, and the stylus never skipped. Over all it grades as excellent minus.

SIDE TWO

Little Miss Strange. Nice warm sounding mix. Light crackle in the dead wax and a couple of bars of the musical intro. Grades excellent.

Long hot summer night. Got some crackle between tracks and into the track. These lps would benefit from a deep clean. Audio is sounding warm and clear. Good groove to this track. Bit of dust crackle in the outro.

Come on. Quiet dusty sounding at the start, then moderate crackle persists especially in quieter sections of the music. The bass and drums are quiet up in this mix. Crackle on the outro. Grades as very good.

Gipsy eyes. Classic track. No real issues, other than really low dust crackle.Grades excellent minus

Burning of the midnight lamp. Another classic. Some funky sounding instruments and effects are being used you can hear them in the back. No signs of this side being overplayed. Grades as excellent minus.

Another great sounding side with little fault.

SIDE THREE

Rainy day dream away. Bit of a dusty intro. Muffled crackle continues into the song for a few bars. Nice close mic'd sound with the instruments and vocals. Sound like you're in the room with the band. Grades very good minus.

1983.I love this track. Sounds big once it kicks in. The drum sound is sweet. The bass is really low and full, resonating in my headphones.  No loss loss of over all quality. Some light crackle at the start, in some quieter moments as usual. Not really an annoyance. Grades as very good plus

Moon turn the tides.

It is surprisingly sparse of crackle in the very quiet parts, with just light guitar and percussion, mellow bass. Sounds surprisingly good and you can clearly hear all the weirdness going on in the background. Some pops, and a repeating muted scuff for the last few bars. May be a mark or may clean out, this short section sounds dusty. Grades Very good minus

It was a fine sounding side with no major issues. Grades as very good

SIDE FOUR

Still raining, still dreaming.Nice crisp sounding vocals and guitar. The tracks not sounding overplayed in any way. Grades as excellent.

House burning down.Light crackle between the tracks, not much. The production on this track is sounding pretty tight. All the instruments are nice and punchy. Vocals jump out. Plenty of booming bottom end. Grades as excellent.

All along the watchtower. Sounding lovely so far. Come on. Gipsy eyes. Just heard a pop for three revolves. That was it. Some light crackle. Grades very good minus.

Voodoo chile (slight return). Sounding like a beast of a track. Good and loud. No break up of top or bottom end frequencies. Guitar sounds super raw. And don't forget the maracas, you can hear them in then bad ground through out. I wonder whose job that was? This track is sounding top notch so far. Sounded great and grades as excellent.

A decent sounding side with no major issues.Grades over all as excellent minus

VISUAL GRADES

SIDE ONE.

The vinyl has a good sheen. Looks like it has been played a bit. Some fine marks and some light to moderate weight scratches.Couple of thin scratches that are about 2" long, and cover a couple of tracks, couple of scuffs. Grades good.

SIDE B

This looks like it has been played a reasonable amount of times. I doesn't look worn out however it does have quite a few superficial marks and the odd fine moderate scratch. Plenty of unmarked surface is present. There are three marks about 10mm long that run in a diagonal from the lead in dead wax towards the label. The first mark goes from the dead wax about half way into track one, the next from the end of track two into track three. Lastly and the very lightest goes from halfway through track four to its end. None of these are hard. There's a light scratch over track one. Grades as very good minus.

SIDE C. Plenty of unmarked surface. Also many light marks. An obvious moderate weight scratch 1.3cm long in the middle track two. Near that is a 6mm harder looking scratch also on track. If any of these effect the audio, I will have mentioned it in the audio grades. Grades very good minus.

SIDE FOUR. Looks well played. Plenty of unmarked surface but also many fine marks, and light scratches. Grades Good.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This was an enjoyable play back session with one of my favourite albums. The audio has stood up well for being forty plus years old. There was no great loss in the overall sound quality, in spite of the crackles mentioned. The cover does show signs of age but is not worn out. This is not a final upgrade by any means. This is a more than decent playing copy, from when it was still being pressed on decent vinyl. Not perfect but totally acceptable and an affordable addition of a classic for your collection.

I still have many LP's and singles to list form The Beatles, Led Zeppelin,Pink Floyd,The Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa. A bit of old blues, some jazz, rock and film soundtracks. I list in no particular order, just as I unpack them. If you would like to find out first and get updated then please go ahead and follow me or save me as a seller. eBay will send you notifications when I put up a new listing.

GRADE DEFINITIONS, POSTAL AND PAYMENT INFO BELOW.

MINT

The LP or single is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT

The LP or single shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD

The LP or single has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and an occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover and contents without any major defects.

GOOD

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing edges, spine splits, discoloring etc.
