Description

JOCY DE OLIVEIRA - COMPOSITIONS FOR VOICE AND ELECTRONIC AND ACOUSTIC INSTRUMENTS

This LP is new from the original pressing.  The vinyl is absolutely flawless but the jacket has 1.5 inch split seams at the top and bottom probably because it was issued in 1981 (that makes it 33 years old) and it’s made a number of major moves with me since that time.

When Jocy included one of my pieces on this album without my approval she sent me several disks; what I’m offering on this auction is one of them.  In reference to the theft I’m not certain if she was looking for forgiveness or wanted to prove to me that she could do anything she wanted because from an early age she had been known for her prodigious musical talent at the piano and had personal professional relationships with composers across the spectrum including Stravinsky, Lucas Foss, Xenakis, Pousseur, David Tudor, Berio, Larry Austin and others.  On the album she does give me credit for being a “collaborator” but her piano playing is so soft it’s virtually inaudible (which is close to what I asked for when we performed my piece in Rio de Janeiro). You will find my realization of Wavesong (the correct title) on track 10 of a CD called THE ELECTRONIC ARTS OF SOUND AND LIGHT, VOLUME 1:  MUSIC FOR THE BOOK; that's the original sound.

A few years ago this LP sold for $149.92 on eBay and it was “used” whereas this one is NEW even though I listed it as used because of the split seams.  Why so much money?  Because this LP is a rare historical item from an artist who was in her day a bit like a Brazilian Yoko Ono, only much more expansive, inclusive and musically talented.  Jocy managed to live and work in New York City, Rio de Janeiro, Paris and London and performed often in North America, South America and Europe at top venues with top groups (including major symphony orchestras, dance companies, experimental artists, etc.).  She was also a tireless organizer of unique art/music events.  There are not many folks like Jocy so whatever records she’s left behind are bound to become more and more valuable in the art/music world and that includes this LP.
