Joe Bonamassa & Beth Hart SEESAW 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION 2013 Import LP

Seesaw reunites force-of-nature blues-rock vocalist Beth Hart and guitar hero Joe Bonamassa for a second album of choice covers from various musical eras.

As with their first outing, Don't Explain, the project is in collaboration with producer Kevin Shirley (Joe Bonamassa, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Black Crowes).

Each of the three principals suggested and selected tracks for the 11-song set list, which mines soulful classics previously made famous by Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Billie Holiday, Donnie Hathaway, Lucinda Williams, Buddy Miles, Tina Turner, Slackwax, Melody Gardot, and Nina Simone.

The one-two punch of Hart's powerhouse vocals and Bonamassa s scorching solos both honors and reinvents the original recordings. They are backed by the same world class band that kept the grooves going on Don't Explain: Anton Fig (drums, percussion), Carmine Rojas (bass), Blondie Chaplin (rhythm guitar, backing vocals and percussion), Arlan Schierbaum (organ, piano). This time out, their mighty sound is augmented by a horn section, with Lee Thornburg on trumpets and trombones, and Ron Dziubla on saxophones.

For Hart and Bonamassa, making music together grew out of the friendship and mutual artistic appreciation they developed after crossing paths on the road numerous times, particularly on the festival circuit in Europe. Bonamassa wanted to do a project with her, and came up with the idea for a soul covers record. Shirley, who s produced 12 of Bonamassa's albums, was enthusiastic, and Bonamassa contacted Hart. The chemistry clicked, and Don't Explainwas released in 2011, followed now by Seesaw; in between, both Hart and Bonamassa have toured, recorded solo albums, and reached new career highs.

Joe Bonamassa & Beth Hart Don't Explain 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION 2011 OUT OF PRINT Import LP

180 Gram Vinyl! 2009's Breakthrough Artist of the Year! Blues-Rock Master!

As Joe Bonamassa grows his reputation as one of the world’s greatest guitar players, he is also evolving into a charismatic blues-rock star and singer-songwriter of stylistic depth and emotional resonance. His ability to connect with live concert audiences is transformational.

In May ’09, he played to a sold out crowd at London’s Royal Albert Hall, arguably the most prestigious concert venue in the world. During the show, Bonamassa’s hero, Eric Clapton, joined him on stage for a joint-performance of Clapton’s hit “Further On Up The Road.” London’s The Independent said about the show, “The man has arrived, and there’s no turning back.”

In 2009, Joe was awarded the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award at the U.K.’s prestigious Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards and Classic Rock magazine has said, “They’re calling him the future of blues, but they’re wrong – Joe Bonamassa is the present; so fresh and of his time that he almost defines it.” He was also named Best Blues Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine’s 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards for the third consecutive year. Guitar Player writer Matt Blackett has said, “He’s an old soul, and that comes through in his bends, vibrato, singing voice, and note choices, which – with each passing year – get more restrained and refined.”

2009 also marked Bonamassa’s twentieth year as a professional musician, an extraordinary timeline for a young artist just into his ’30s. A child prodigy, Bonamassa was finessing Stevie Ray Vaughan licks when he was seven and by the time he was ten, had caught B.B. King’s ear. After first hearing him play, King said, “This kid’s potential is unbelievable. He hasn’t even begun to scratch the surface. He’s one of a kind.” By age 12, Bonamassa was opening shows for the blues icon and went on to tour with venerable acts including Buddy Guy, Foreigner, Robert Cray, Stephen Stills, Joe Cocker and Gregg Allman.

This 2011 album by Joe Bonamassa and vocalist Beth Hart includes covers of songs by Ray Charles, Tom Waits, Melody Gardot, Bill Withers, Aretha Franklin, Etta James and more!

Grammy Nominated Artists Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa release their album Black Coffee

Featuring songs made famous by Edgar Winter, Ray Charles, Etta James, Steve Marriot, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Lucinda Williams, LaVern Baker & more

The edgy, no-holds-barred soul singer from Los Angeles, Beth Hart, with the top-notch shredding blues guitarist from Upstate New York, Joe Bonamassa, have formed a powerful duo and one of the best in blues-rock music.

Back in 2013, the critically acclaimed, Grammy nominated, and number 1 Billboard Blues album Seesaw was released by singer-songwriter and blues-rock powerhouse Beth Hart and guitar hero Joe Bonamassa. Since then, they have both been on fire, riding creative tidal waves both in the studio and live. So, the time was primed perfectly to reunite for another collection of scorching interpretations of ten soul gems. Hart's breath-taking vocals, that sweep and delve deep into the belly of the song, and Bonamassa's masterfully expressive playing make Black Coffee a captivating listen.

With producer extraordinaire Kevin 'The Caveman' Shirley (Joe Bonamassa, Led Zeppelin, Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Rush) back at the helm, the result is the stunning rollercoaster that digs deep into the soul catalogue where they honour but re-imagine songs from Edgar Winter, Etta, James, Ike & Tina Turner/Steve Marriot, Ella Fitzgerald, Lil? Green, LaVern Baker, Howlin' Wolf, Lucinda Williams and Waldeck. Each one having the majestic heart and soul that Beth and Joe bleed on each record.

Recorded in 5 days at Studio at the Palms, Las Vegas in August 2016 with some of the finest musicians around, they have once again recalled some familiar names in Anton Fig (Drums/Percussion), Ron Dziubla (Saxophone), and Lee Thornburg (Horn Arrangements / Trumpet / Trombone) and welcomed in Reese Wynans (Keyboards), Michael Rhodes (Bass), Rob McNelley (Rhythm Guitar), Paulie Cerra (Saxophone), Mahalia Barnes (Backing Vocals), Jade Macrae (Backing Vocals) and Juanita Tippins (Backing vocals).

Talking about the sessions behind Black Coffee, Seesaw, 2011's Don’t Explain and 2014's Live in Amsterdam, Shirley gives some insight of what they are looking to achieve; "We're trying not to dig into a playbook that's been done many times which is the old soul classics. We try and find a different spin on it, originally it was about trying to find some songs that people didn’t know at all and bring them back to people’s attention."

One such song, was a Joe suggestion, the album opener Give It Everything You Got taken from 1971s Edgar Winter's White Trash album, with its hard rock meets Stax infused sound, the band deliver a formidable performance. "I don't think that's a song a lot of people know, it's an old soul classic but it's not really amongst the pantheon of the ones you expect," says Shirley. "One of the things Jeff Beck had said to me once that I thought was so wonderful was" explains Hart, "He said, as soon as you get comfortable, and if you stay there, you're just gonna start dying as an artist. And I feel that, one of the gifts that I've got with working with Joe is that I'm always uncomfortable - in a good way."

Shirley adds about the band, "those guys just played live, they just came in and played, it was mind numbingly incredible to be in the studio when that happens, the band were so great."

One of the key aspects of the sessions is to push everyone as much as possible. "They are always out of their comfort zone in the studio, this session especially wasn't a comfortable session," Shirley reveals. "Everyone left feeling challenged. It's intriguing. We go into the studio for 5 days and all of the musicians are challenged, they are all very good musicians, very experienced musicians, top of their field, nothing is easy, this isn't a summer in the grass session, just a couple of chords, this is people digging in deep."
