JOE NEWMAN AND ZOOT SIMS - LOCKING HORNS – RAMA RLP 1003 – EX/VG+ – MONO
Recorded on April 10, 1957, this session features Joe Newman on trumpet, Zoot Sims on tenor, Johnny Acea on piano, Oscar Pettiford on bass and Osie Johnson on drums. SIDE A: CORKY; MAMBO FOR JOE; WOLAFUNT’S LAMENT; MIDNITE FANTASY and ‘TATER PIE. SIDE B: OH SHAY; BATTING AROUND; OH JOE; SUSETTE and SIMILAR SOULS. This is the first release of this LP, before it was released on Roulette later on. This is a MONO rerecording.
I have graded the LP as EX and the record jacket as VG+ for the following reasons. The vinyl on both sides is clean of marks, except one very small one on Side A, Cut 3, which does not interfere with play. There is no sign of wear in or around the spindle hole. The vinyl retains its original luster. The record jacket is in good to excellent condition, except there is a taped seam on the top and two on the spine. Other than that, the record jacket shows no real sign of wear. The taped seams brings the grading down to VG+.
