Vinyl: NM. Play Graded. Plays like New! TOP COPY! Super high gloss vinyl. Light superficial paper scuffs visible under bright light but have no impact on sound quality. Apple Labels are Clean and Bright. This is the Original 1969 Apple 1ST Pressing! SMAX-3361. Issued October 20, 1969. This is the Scranton, PA pressing. The darlings of the Avant-Garde season of 1969, here we are invited into the beautiful, if precious, world of John & Yoko. The beauty of this record is that they did invite all of us along on their honeymoon, and who else do you know who would willingly do that?!? We are a fly on the wall in their Amsterdam honeymoon suite, when they invited the world press into the bedroom to find our heroes in bed...not il flagrant, but ready to discuss peace, freedom and how we can all get along...perhaps there's some value in revisiting their gift in 2020????

Cover: NM- TOP COPY! (see photos) Nice high gloss on box cover. The artwork and text is bright and clear. The corners of the box have splits in the slick but are still together. No writing. Spine print is crystal clear. This boxset has the RAREST variation of the 3 different originally issued gatefold covers: In the inner gatefold is the catalog number SNAX-3361. The "gifts" in the box are in beautiful condition and are complete. Nothing is missing. The big poster has some age spots, otherwise beautiful. No pinholes. Appears to have never been hung up on a wall, etc. The second poster has no pinholes, beautiful condition. Similarly, it appears to have never been hung on a wall, etc. All of the other goodies are also in remarkably beautiful condition! The slice of cake, the bag for the cake, the Photo Booth strip, the postcard, the booklet, the marriage certificate, all Minty and remarkably without tears, creases, writing. The record cover is in NM condition! The plain inner sleeve is in nice condition. The most fun for me is reading the news articles and cartoons, some supportive, some not, of J&Y's peace crusade, bed-in, etc. Welcome to the party!

All records are packaged securely with the vinyl outside the jacket (to avoid seam split in transit). For this one, I'll put bubble wrap inside the box to protect the contents/wedding gifts, etc., and put the record outside the box, and place it and its cover on top of the box, wrapped in bubble wrap in such a way as to eliminate any possible corner splitting of the box. The vinyl and box, ultimately, will be sandwiched between two cardboard stiffeners and shipped in a custom cardboard record mailer box. I get compliments on my packaging.

Why buy a first or early pressing and not a re-issue or a ‘re-mastered’ vinyl album? First and early pressings are pressed from the first generation lacquers and stampers. They usually sound vastly superior to later issues/re-issues (which, in recent times, are often pressed from whatever 'best' tapes or digital sources are currently available) - many so-called 'audiophile' new 180g pressings are cut from hi-res digital sources…essentially an expensive CD pressed on vinyl. Why experience the worse elements of both formats? These are just High Maintenance CDs, with mid-ranges so cloaked with a veil as to sound smeared. They are nearly always compressed with murky transients and a general lifelessness in the overall sound. There are exceptions where re-masters/re-presses outshine the original issues, but they are exceptions and not the norm. First or early pressings nearly always have more immediacy, presence and dynamics. The sound staging is wider. Subtle instrument nuances are better placed with more spacious textures. Balances are firmer in the bottom end with a far-tighter bass. Upper-mid ranges shine without harshness, and the overall depth is more immersive. Inner details are clearer. On first and early pressings, the music tends to sound more ‘alive’ and vibrant. The physics of sound energy is hard to clarify and write about from a listening perspective, but the best we can describe it is to say that you can 'hear' what the mixing and mastering engineers wanted you to hear when they first recorded the music.

The third and last of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's experimental albums to be released within a one-year period, Wedding Album, like Unfinished Music, No. 1: Two Virgins, was in some ways more notable for its packaging than for its content. It came in a box containing a facsimile of the Lennons' wedding certificate and a photograph of a piece of wedding cake. The record itself contained two selections, one of which consisted of nearly 25 minutes of Yoko Ono's wailing, while the other, "John and Yoko," featured the two, one in each stereo speaker, calling out the other's name for more than 22 minutes.
