Description
JOHN ZACHERLEY
1964 COLPIX 45
Zacherle was, of course, born in Translyvania, the eldest of three only sons, parented by a migratory mortician and a reformed lady spiritualist. They were married.
As an infant, Zacherle's first playpen was the obvious enclosure of his father's trade. he showed a lively interest in the field of mortuary science from the very first and soon became indispensable in his father's business. His skills reached such a high degree of development that he was named guest lecturer at the University Of Translyvania in the field of anatomical studies.
From lecturing over cadavers, it was but a short leap to the theater. Zacherle took that step one moonless night, and immediately became the darling of the Translyvanian stage. Television clamored for him, and before long he made his video debut. After a stint at Translyvania's leading channel, WHEEEEEEEE-TV, Zacherle moved on to more ghoulish pastures in Philadelphia. He modestly billed himself as 'Roland.' As host of television horror movies, Zacherle featured many intimates from his boyhood years in his native land. After a great success in the City Of Brotherly Loathe, Zacherle moved his paraphernalia to one of New York City's leading channels where, he now rests in peace
It was while in Philadelphia at WCHU-TV that Zacherle first shrieked on a little bit of plastic. The record is "Dinner With Drac" and was unleashed on an unsuspecting world in March of 1958. Despite not coming around at Halloween as all good monster discs do, this still climbed to #6 in the nation. It preceded the "Monster Mash" by many, many years.
So when Bobby 'Boris' Pickett hit with Monster Mash, it was Zacherle who came back with his own bunch of monster songs, including his version of Monster Mash. THIS RECORD finds him in 1964, singing the hip tune “Monsters Have Problems Too” and an outrageous version of “Hello Dolly!” where he’s inviting Dolly up to the castle for god only knows what.
