JRR TOLKIEN Hobbit & Fellowship of Ring 1975 Caedmon 1st Press TC1477 Smaug NM/VG+

J.R.R. Tolkien reads and sings excerpts from The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring in his own voice.

This recording was made in 1952 at George Sayer’s home in Malvern, Worcestershire — years before The Lord of the Rings was even published.

This is an original US first pressing on Caedmon Records, catalog number TC 1477, from 1975.

The front cover features “Conversation with Smaug,” an original illustration by Tolkien himself, first published in The Hobbit.

White Caedmon label with blue border, correct for this pressing.

The back cover includes detailed listening notes and chapter timings written by George Sayer.
