“I’ll Sing of Life” Private pressing #ART-9048. Here’s a review taken from “The Acid Archives – Vol. 2” edited by Patrick Lundborg. It’s refreshing to hear a private press record that mixes low-fi recording technology with completely competent, in fact, often inspiringly good, musicianship. Intveld’s brand of heavy prog packs a major punch right out of the gate, with the seven and a half minute ‘Never Mind’ as good as anything by Lift, Zoldar & Clark or Yezda Urfa and heavier than all of them. He was a senior in high school when he did this, played all of the instruments except drums (he smartly hired the guy who was clearly the best drummer in the north Minneapolis suburbs), mixed folky ballads with high-octane hardrock and Yes-style pop/prog. Unlike a lot of prog, the keyboards are restrained and the guitars more melodic and colorful than frantically fast (dig the gorgeous little slide breaks on ‘Circles’). He’s a singer-songwriter in prog clothes. That’s good and bad. Not all of the more ‘sensitive’-sounding songs will really hold your attention, but they do create a more appealing variety than a bunch of long boring solos would have. This isn’t a consistently good album, but it’s a unique and fascinating one, and its high points make it very worthwhile. [AM]. Both the cover & vinyl are in strong VG++ condition.
