Description

Original US King mono LP # 635.  This is also known as the "Smoking Gun" cover and is rare because it was changed to a less controversial cover on later pressing.  I am including 2 original covers.  When I bought this LP the cover had a full top seam split and a full bottom seam split.  The back and front covers have no writing.  I saw a listing for a "NM" cover only and purchased it as an upgrade.  The description wasn't accurate at all - the seams were taped and I could have done that to the cover I had and saved my money.  There are no stains and no writing so that may help you figure out how to grade the cover. The seller offered me a credit but based on how he described the item, I figured I'd just cut my losses.  My loss can be your gain since I'm including both covers in this auction - keep the LP in whichever cover you think is better.

This is a "Crownless" King LP.  I have not taken a ruler to the label so I'm not sure if it's 2 inch or 3 inch, but I don't think King did more than one pressing of this LP with the smoking gun cover so it is most likely a first pressing LP, though someone reading this will probably know more about it than I do.  I played the LP through and there were no skips though background noise was present, especially between songs.  There's great fidelity on the horns here - they jump out of the speakers like you're at a live concert and while the background noise is noticeable on the quiter songs it is hardly apparent on the more uptempo numbers.  There is a tiny mark that can be felt on the song "I've Got To Change" but while there was a "tick" it didn't skip.  Every turntable is different and if you play this on a very high end unit the flaws may be more noticeable than on an average record player.  This is a fairly rare record so base your bid on the cover(s) and you can't go wrong.

Feel free to ask any questions.  Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
