Description
This album includes 3 (6 sides) records #'s 551-1A through 3B on Asch records, 1944, of James P. Johnson, piano, entitled New York Jazz. Other musicians are: Frank Newton, trumpet, "Pops" Foster, Bass, Al Casey, guitar, and Eddie Dougherty, drums. There are some sides with James Johnson alone and others which include all the musicians. Titles are: Euphonic Sounds, The Dream, Hot Harlem, The Boogie Dream, Four O'clock Groove, and Hesitation Blues. CONDITION: These records have not been played by me and it looks like most have not been played at all. (If I were certain of this I would have marked them as mint.) But a visual examination of the surfaces reveals no scratches, or wear marks of any kind. Even the center hole looks unworn in most. There is a mark on the inside of one of the records (outside the playing area) that looks like a flaw of some sort. You can see it in the pictures of the records below. The album cover designer is David Stone Martin. The album outside has a little shelfwear and there is a slight separation between the inside front cover and the first "page."
