I've beendownsizing my surplus gadgetry etc., brought on following a massive stroke that  forced me in to early retirement.

I have now reached the most treasured part of my man cave... TheRecord Collection. I started collecting records over 45 years ago, mainly from the late 60's to early 80's. My first job from leaving school was working in a record shop. This gave me access to back catalogue and imports. Whilst my main interests were (and still is) Classic Prog, Dutch and German prog rock(the more obscure the better!) that job did allow me to explore other genres, so my collection is quite varied. Plus, there are now more modern ways to collect music but I'm really going to miss those sleeves!

On Side 2 there is a small hairline scratch from the middle of Track 1 and through Track 2. There are no skips, clicks or jumps and it is not audible and doesn’t show up on my recording either. At least to me. See later in Terms and Conditions

Gatefold sleeve. According to sources, the Matrix numbers and the deep groove in the centre labels indicates this may be a first run. I have more albums by Jane to list in the future.

Matrix Numbers

I have recorded Matrix Numbersexactly as they appear, all the way round the runout. Consider them all STAMPED unless I specifically state ETCHED in brackets. I've also attempted to photograph some of them but with very mixed results. Hopefully I'll get betterat this, but in the meantime, any tips welcome! Prospective buyers should checkthese against Discogs and other references BEFORE BIDDING. I've already noticed many of my albums have variations from Discogs but maybe I'm just being a bit pedantic! You need to make your own judgement regarding version and value. I hope my records are priced to sell, and that the eventual buyer gets good value. Remember I am a privatecollector and not a record dealer, and don?t have their overheads, but I amaware of what a fair market value might be. Pay me what you think this album is worth to you. I'm always open to realisticoffers.

It will take me some time to list my collection and I will beselective to start with. My collection is small, almost 400 albums. A modestcollection but re-listening, researching prices and photography all takes time. Pleasefollow me or keep checking back to see what's new. As my collection is personalthere may even be a story to tell with some items. Whilst my albums arecatalogued in a spreadsheet, I've only done about quarter of the singles. Some itemsI might list later in small collections by artist, others as single items.

Packaging:

LP's will be left in their innersleeve but removed from their outers. Inserts will be left in the main sleeve. I will be using custompackaging which I've had to buy in. Currently I'm using an Amazon style B2rigid CLP 12 cruciform vinyl mailer plus stiffeners. I want albums to arrivein the condition they left me.

Cleaning

All vinyl will be cleaned manually as required using VinylClean liquidand microfibre cloths. I don't own a record cleaning machine. Perhaps youshould clean it again to your standards before playing. Clean your stylus too :-) 

Playing

Albums will be played one last time in full before listing. This is toensure there are no skips or excessive noise and I can give an accuratedescription of how it plays. A digital copy of this play will be kept so I canprove the condition when it left me and will be deleted when I receive positivefeedback. I will do my best to describe any flaws such as wear to sleeves,scuffs, marks or scratches and describe them honestly. Inspection will becarried out under artificial light using a magnifier.

You are bidding for an item that will be anything from 25 to 50 yearsold, which is antique by some standards so DO NOT expect perfection. Remember VINYLis an inherently FRAGILE product and there will always be the odd pop, hiss andbackground noise. A lot of this is subjective and will be entirely dependent onyour equipment and your hearing. Part of the attraction of vinyl is that itisn?t perfect. If you do place a bid, it is on the strict understanding thatyou are purchasing the record on its visual description and not how it mightplay.

Brand new vinyl can have clicks and pops, and worse. I recall when workingin the record shop having to open several shrink-wrapped copies of RodStewart?s Greatest Hit Album (Whisky tumbler shape) to find a fussy customer a "flat" one. You should have seen his face when one turned out to have a perfectboot print on it!

Grading

When grading records, I'll err on the side of caution as I have no wish to overstate the condition of sleeves or vinyl and therefore inflate the value. I will tryto photograph any significant wear or damage. If you need more information,please contact me via eBay. I'm happy to answer questions.

Some albums may have numbers/letters handwritten on the inner sleeve. This is justa location code used by the record shop

Most of my albums have been kept in PVC wallets since purchase and will be sold inthem. Our home has always been smoke and pet free and our records have always beenkept vertical and in dry inside storage. It is possible that some of the glued areas will have dried out over the years. I am not going to make any effort tofix these as I?d rather sell the record in an honest condition. I will ignore thesekinds of splits in the grading codes, as I consider this a factor of age, but Iwill ALWAYS mention this in the table above. I think the quality of thecardboard, printing an any lamination is more important.

I'll use the UK Record Collector Grading Systemto describe my items. There are some instances where items will fall in between these grades and I may use + or - to give a more accurate description.

M

Mint

The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.
The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

Ex

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening of sound quality.
The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VG

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch.

Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

G

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches.

The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.

F

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even jump.

The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

P

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc.

The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

B

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken and is only of use as a collection filler.
