For those bidding from outside the UK - you are very welcome.  Records will be packed with the greatest of care.  Note that the maximum number of records that can be sent in one air-mail box is 5.  If you purchase more than 5 records - you will be required to pay for more than one box!   By default, records will be sent by standard air-mail. A fully tracked and insured service "Airsure" is also offered - please select which service you require when you check out.

Grading

How 78 rpm Records are Graded

   The final record grade is arrived at following both a visual inspection and part/full play-test of both sides of the record:-

1. A chipped or cracked record is rejected (I do not knowingly sell these).
2. If necessary, the record is first cleaned.
3. It is then visually examined and assigned a grade (see grade descriptions below).
4. The record is then play-tested.
5. The grade may then be adjusted depending on the play-test.  For example, a record that is EXC may be downgraded to VG if there is too much background noise for the EXC grade. Records can also be upgraded following the play-test.

Grade Descriptions

   Mint:                     A perfect shiny-black copy with no blemishes of any kind. It is unusual to find a
                                78 rpm record in this condition.

   Near Mint (NM):    Almost like Mint, but may have one or two minor scuff marks. Plays perfectly with
                               no background noise or distortion.

   Excellent (EXC):   This is a used copy but is still shiny-black. A few marks may be present, but these
                               do not affect how the record plays.  The record plays extremely well with minimal
                               background noise for its era (see note 3 below) and no distortion.

   Very Good (VG):   This is a used copy with some greying to its colour.  There may be several scuff
                                marks and some minor scratches but these are not too intrusive when playing.
                                The record plays well with a small amount of background noise, but little, if any
                                distortion.  Playing a VG graded record should still be an enjoyable experience.

   Good (G):             In record-dealer "speak", "Good" in fact means "not so good"!  The record may
                               have much greying and many marks and scratches some of which may be audible
                               when playing.  The background noise may be significant and distortion may be
                               noticeable but the record will still play through.  Most records sold in this category
                               are usually either very rare or very old.


Grading Notes

1. If a record is considered to be between two grades - a further qualifier may be added; e.g between VG and EXC will become: VG+.
2. If it is difficult to decide which of two categories a record should be in, then both are given e.g: VG/EXC.
3. With pre-1925 acoustic recordings a small but significant background noise will be considered normal even on records graded at VG+ or better.
4. If there is significant damage to the record label - this will be mentioned.
5. The grading methods in this listing are for 78 rpm discs only. They are not relevant for any 33/45 rpm vinyl records on sale in this shop.

Record Sleeves

Old, torn, musty record sleeves will be discarded and the record supplied with a sleeve in reasonable condition, although it may still have minor repairs.  Older "dealer style" cardboard sleeves are reserved for earlier discs which require more protection.  If possible, sleeves are matched to the record's label. Otherwise the record will be supplied with a new white paper sleeve.

Payment

You can only purchase from this shop if you have a functioning Paypal account (unless home pick-up is allowed for the item – please see Dispatch and Delivery below). Please do not bid if your Paypal account has been suspended or is in any other way not working.

Payment must be made within 7 days (one week) of winning the item; - failure to do this will result in you being reported to eBay for non-payment.  If you think that you will be unable to pay in this time, please contact me first before bidding.


Item description Issues

Every effort is made to ensure that the item description is correct and that the digital photo(s) of the item are an accurate representation.  Each photo is compared against the item when the listing is compiled.  The most likely explanation for the photo not looking like the item itself is that your screen or graphics card settings (brightness, colour or contrast) have been adjusted and/or that your screen is an older type of LCD screen or CRT-monitor.  It is not possible for me to check how a photo looks on every computer screen throughout the world! 

So if you are not completely happy, please send the item back to me for a full “no-quibble” refund which will include any extra postage you may incur.

Note - no refunds will be available for items which are described as:- FAULTY, BROKEN, INCOMPLETE, CHIPPED or SPARES OR REPAIRS.


Dispatch and Delivery

Dispatch address - by default, dispatch will always be to your registered Paypal address. Please ensure that this is correct before bidding – (this may not be the same as your registered eBay address!).  In exceptional cases, (UK only – and you must check with me first) I may, upon request, send to a different address, but the item will have to be sent by tracked mail and you will need to ask me for a quote, before bidding, as this will cost you more!
   
If your Paypal address is unconfirmed, I may ask you to confirm it by replying to an email sent via eBay’s audited email system.  I will always ask for confirmation from international buyers where the Paypal address is unconfirmed.  The item will not be dispatched, until you reply to this email by clicking the “Respond” button in the email itself so that your reply can be fully audited.

International items will only be sent to the buyer’s registered Paypal address – NO EXCEPTIONS.  Please ensure that your Paypal address is correct, before bidding.

Dispatch time will be up to 10 days after cleared payment has been received, unless otherwise stated in the listing. Normal letters and “large letters” will usually be dispatched much quicker than this.

By default, packets and parcels will be sent by the cheapest method possible – this saves you money, but as the Post Office “Standard parcels” service can take up to 5 days, in the worst case scenario you can expect to receive your item up to 15 days following payment.  International surface mail may take significantly longer than this!

For quicker dispatch and delivery, please select a premium option (1st class recorded, Special Delivery or International Signed For) when you pay for the item.  If no premium service is offered – please email me first for a quote, before bidding.

Home pick-up is only allowed for large or heavy items.  Please check with me first, before bidding.  It is not an option for small items i.e those that will be sent by letter or "large letter".  The only form of payment accepted here is CASH ON COLLECTION – DO NOT PAY using Paypal.

Valuable items, e.g Gold, Silver and some coins, will only be sent fully tracked by Special Delivery or International Signed For – NO EXCEPTIONS.
