An excellent original 1971 UK Track Records pressing of Jimi Hendrix – The Cry Of Love, carrying the desirable first-cut A//1 / B//1 matrices.
Released only months after Hendrix’s death, The Cry Of Love was assembled from recordings he had been working on during the final period of his life, with production completed by Eddie Kramer and Mitch Mitchell.
Far from being a collection of discarded material, the album contains some of Hendrix’s strongest late-period studio recordings, including Freedom, Ezy Ryder, Night Bird Flying, Angel, Straight Ahead and In From The Storm.
The record captures the direction Hendrix was moving towards in 1970: tighter songwriting combined with increasingly sophisticated studio production, funk, soul and the psychedelic guitar work for which he remains renowned.
This is a particularly attractive original UK example, housed in the distinctive Track Deluxe gatefold sleeve and retaining the early A//1 / B//1 matrix combination documented on first UK copies.
Condition
Sleeve: VG++
The original gatefold sleeve presents extremely well with only light signs of previous storage and handling.
The artwork remains clean and vivid, with only minor age-related edge, corner or surface wear preventing a full EX grade.
Overall, a particularly strong original 1971 sleeve.
Vinyl: VG+
The vinyl retains a good, clean gloss with light signs of previous handling and play.
There are some minor surface marks and hairlines visible under close inspection, consistent with the VG+ grade, but nothing excessive.
A very respectable original UK playing copy.
